‘Agents Of Mystery’ Recap: The Deep Sea Mystery

The first game of Agents of Mystery the brand-new Netflix Korea reality show, had a group of six solving the case of three missing women who were kept captive by a cult named the Church of Molek. They came close to being sacrificed by the Messenger, the new leader of the Church of Molek, after they got rid of their old one. This task had to be completed in six hours, and the enthusiasts did so even though they were almost captured by the cult leader and the members. Once this task was over, the group was soon assigned another one. There is no mention of the time gap between the cases assigned. The second case given to them had the group be in a submarine, which had seven out of eight members of the crew who had lost contact with their main team back on the land. Only one of them was in contact, while the network was too feeble but could barely contact.

The submarine Midas 8 was located in a Philippine trench 7500 m below sea level, where the crew was researching deep-sea animals. Midas 8 was a state-of-the art vehicle, and this group was given the chance to work on it after solving the mystery of the abandoned factory. Their job was to rescue the survivors on the submarine and procure the data from the hard drive that would be useful for the scientists and other marine biologists to conduct research. The entire operation would be underwater, which was scary for some. On reaching the submarine through the portal, the biggest obstacle they faced was coming across several dead bodies that were headless and the dropping oxygen level in the vehicle. Along with the actual assigned work, they needed to be careful about how they got to the bottom of this and found the survivors.

The presence of a lab, many broken objects, and dead bodies made it obvious that there was a person or a monster that could be ravaging through the vessel. The assumption of a monster present in the airtight submarine scared the group as the obstacles kept piling up, and they had to find results step by step. This would also prove their strength as a team. The group discovered saliva from the vent confirmed their worst fears about the presence of the monster and how to avoid this man-eating being and finish their assigned task in six hours.

The laptop in the laboratory gave the group access to the footage of a rare species and the researchers on board. The researchers were studying this particular deep sea animal of a particular species which was growing at a dangerously fast pace. The species ended up entering the body of one of the researchers, who went on a rampage after taking the shape of a man, ripping the heads of humans, and consuming it. Their first obstacle was to upgrade the oxygen level in the submarine, which could only be done by finding out the right code for the main system of the Midas 8. The right code was somehow hidden in the central system of the submarine. Since they were not the original crew, they initially did not have the code to reboot the system. After working on the code languages and brainstorming over what could help them access the main system, the group narrowed down on “Behold” as a codeword. It accurately rebooted the system, and the oxygen level was back to normal.

The group also ventured into the crew quarters, where they came across the last footage of the only survivor, detailing his ordeal after the monster was accidentally unleashed onto the submarine. The group also came across something known as a living weapon project, which was different from the real work the crew was assigned to do. The group found audio footage of the chairman, Jang Man-Gyeong, who was aware of the monster unleashed and was the person spearheading the “Living Weapon Project.” The papers the investigating group accessed from the chairman’s room were handy until they were chased back into the nose of the Midas 8 by the monster UML-02. The group faced many obstacles, which included water rising in the vessel. The group turned the vehicle around to reduce the level of water.

The group accessed the emails of Chairman Jang Man and came across details of the mutation and the person who was now termed UML-02. Ahn Joo-Hyoung was the monster who was named UML-02, and his mutation was the reason why the submarine was not allowed to dock at any port. The email revealed many details about UML-02, which included not showing resistance to carbon dioxide because of the mutation. The episode ended with a torpedo alert being sent to the submarine. All the crew members were dead, and one of them had turned into a monster that could not be rescued. The investigating group had to exit the submarine with the hard drives before disaster hits them

The torpedo alert led to the investigating group using the fire extinguisher, which contained only carbon dioxide, to repel the monster. The group was also in possession of the hard drives, which hopefully had many more details about the workings of the submarine Midas 8. The team escaped using the portal while the monster most probably died when the torpedo hit and the second mission, “The Deep Sea Mystery,” was a success as well.
