‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 8 Episode 8 Recap/Review: Aditya Roy & Arjun Kapoor Share Interesting Stories

The seventh episode of the eighth season of Koffee with Karan had Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal being honest about themselves and the work they have done in the past decade. It was probably the most grounded episode where Kiara and Vicky let their guard down and allowed themselves to be unabashedly candid. Being frank is probably the theme of the show this season. Starting from Ranveer and Deepika to Vicky Kaushal and Kiara Advani, there has been a sense of candor in the conversations Karan has had with most of his guests this season.

Recap: What Happens In The Episode?

In the eighth episode, Karan Johar brings two eligible bachelors who are very much in relationships. While Aditya Roy Kapur has not yet admitted it publicly, Arjun Kapoor has gone public with his relationship for the past few years. Aditya might not have had a lot of films in his kitty, but he has cemented himself as the brooding man, while Arjun Kapoor has done many movies in the last decade. Many did not work, but there are a few that did. The episode began with Aditya Roy Kapur finally being recognized and appreciated for his role in the Disney+ Hotstar show The Night Manager. Karan introduced Arjun Kapoor as the mascot of the show because the man has made an appearance multiple times.

The banter quickly turned towards the brooding and handsome Aditya Roy Kapur, who the rumors say is dating Ananya Pandey. She kind of made the relationship public by branding herself Ananya ‘Coy’ Kapur. There has been a lot of talk about their relationship, and the two have been snapped together. At the time, Aditya Roy Kapur was put on the spot and asked questions about his relationship right away. Karan was quick to point out Aditya’s alleged links with Shraddha Kapoor, as their performances and chemistry in Aashiqui 2 received rave reviews. Aditya Roy Kapur was rather tight-lipped about all the questions thrown at him about his relationship status and tried to divert the attention of the host and let the wind move in Arjun Kapoor’s direction.

Arjun Kapoor is, by the looks of it, in a steady relationship with Malaika Arora, and he strictly refuses to talk about his future with her on the show. As a person, he feels it is unfair to speak about matters of the relationship without having a partner around him. Arjun Kapoor, despite having had a rollercoaster of a career since the beginning, seems like a much more sorted out person when it comes to a lot of topics in his personal life. The man has never sugar-coated it; this was the highlight of the episode.

Meanwhile, years later, Aditya Roy Kapur was finally recognized for his work in the official remake of the British show The Night Manager. Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar left no stone unturned in making sure Aditya Roy could slip up and give them some juicy details of his private life. Karan also admitted that Aditya never shares much about his private life, even with his friends, which include the likes of Ranbir and Arjun himself. There was also a lot of banter about Aditya having zero knowledge of Hindi cinema despite working in the industry and having a brother who predominantly produces Hindi films. Aditya is very nonchalant about this detail about him being revealed to the audience watching the show.

Arjun Kapoor, in detail, speaks about his journey in the industry, which has been tumultuous, but he is sure his number will come one day, and he is waiting for an opportunity where he could showcase his talent. As an actor, he believes Saif and Akshay Kumar still got a second chance long after getting strings of flops and after they had given up working in the industry. Arjun Kapoor comes across as a highly optimistic and level-headed person. Karan Johar, at one point in the show, refers to him as the therapist of the industry because the man is known to impart advice to many peers of his age. Arjun does come across as a stable man, even though his professional life has taken a plunge. Arjun also speaks about the toll on his mental health, and he plans to process it before reacting.

Karan Johar, at one point, is very vocal about the shaming and trolling of celebrities, which ends up getting out of hand. Karan and Arjun are firsthand examples of that, and they discuss how they eventually find a way to cut through the noise and move ahead with the work. Karah Johar used a lot of F-bombs to let out his anguish regarding the backlash his episode with Ranveer and Deepika had received. Their honest coming out as a couple received criticism, but Karan and Arjun were fair about people not having the right to talk about a couple who seemed to have found their calling. This heated debate was followed by coffee shots and a pop quiz, which Arjun Kapoor won by a small margin. The famous Rapid Fire had everything in Arjun Kapoor’s favor, but the audience decided to proclaim Aditya Roy Kapur as the winner.

Review: The Bachelor Boys Are Painting The Town Red!

The theme of the eighth episode of Koffee with Karan is making Aditya Roy Kapur the punching bag and cornering him till he reveals who he is dating. The emphasis of this episode was a lot on the romantic life of Aditya Roy Kapur, who so far was considered the most eligible bachelor of B-town. It seems like he is not anymore, and the man is taken as per a lot of the latest rumors.

Karan Johar went after Aditya Roy Kapoor just like any interrogation officer goes after a suspect he knows has committed the crime. It was fun but quickly became cringe-worthy, and Aditya seemed uncomfortable being put on the spot. Unlike Ananya, who probably knows how to dodge this question rather smartly, Aditya may have been exasperated by the number of questions in various permutations and combinations.

Arjun Kapoor was always very candid about his journey. He is probably a guest who has appeared on the show one too many times, and every time there has been a lot to take away from the man who may not have a lot going on career-wise but has a lot to divulge about life and relationships in general. It is endearing to hear Arjun speak with a lot of sincerity and humor, which is rare to find in any actor of his generation. Varun Dhawan could come close to how Arjun Kapoor is off the screen. It was probably the first time Karan dropped the F word so liberally, and we believe it was a long time coming. Karan Johar was visibly livid about the backlash Ranveer and Deepika received after their appearance on the show. His anger was justified because, as stated by Karan Johar himself in the latest episode, Ranveer and Deepika have the right to go through their journey the way they want, and living in a free country, no one has the right to judge anybody. Since social media is an open platform, anyone with no face can have an opinion about everything. The irony lies in the fact that this article is also a review of the Karan Johar show. Constructive criticism is agreeable so long as it does not cross the line and charters into attacking someone’s personal life, which is no one’s business.

Koffee with Karan Episode 8 would have been fun if Aditya Roy Kapoor had not been uncomfortable and angry. The editing of the episode was a little dodgy because there were visible awkward cuts. Nevertheless, this was a highly enjoyable episode and is unlikely to bore anyone to death.
