‘Carnival Row’ Season 2, Episode 7: Recap And Ending, Explained: Did Berwick Survive Sparas’ Attack?

The previous episodes of “Carnival Row” Season 2 have been bloody and vicious. We witnessed the death of Jonah Breakspear, the Chancellor, at the hands of a giant demonic creature called the Sparas. Sophie Longerbane also died unexpectedly after being given the death penalty for her betrayal of the Burgish Republicans. Although Vignette and Millworthy were also held captive, the Sparas spared their lives amid the carnage. When Vignette flew to Tourmaline and Millworthy was taken back to the Republicans, Philo was arrested and subjected to torture by the officers of Bleakness Keep. Sergeant Dombey thought they would need Philo’s help to catch the Sparas and finish it. Dombey consequently sets Philo free, and Philo agrees to aid them just to get out of prison. Ezra went up to Agreus and Imogen in Ragusa around this time. He was given a second chance to prove that he had accepted his sister’s relationship with Agreus. Agreus, on the other hand, was plotting his escape from Ragusa and asked Ezra for cooperation. Let’s wait and watch episode 7 of “Carnival Row” Season 2 to see who would be the Sparas’ next victim, or if Philo would be the one to catch and punish the creature.

Did The Fae Folks Return To Tirnanoc?

In the Burgue, Dombey forces Philo to turn over the Sparas, but Philo only wants to get rid of his duty and check to see whether Vignette is alright. Even Berwick kept pleading with him to look into the Sparas for the sake of this city and the people who were falling victim to the Sparas. Yet, as we have already seen with Dahlia, the Sparas also slaughtered Fae in addition to killing humans. Philo, therefore, had sufficient justification for investigating the issue, which he kept ignoring. Vignette and Tourmaline begged Boz to help them find a way out of the Burgue. However, Boz was more interested in the price that had been placed on Vignette’s head. To protect herself and Tourmaline, Vignette had to battle Boz and his goons. But, on their way back to the Row, they were informed that the Pacts had emancipated their motherland, Tirnanoc after they engaged in a civil war against New Dawn. The Critches were keeping an eye on Philo because they planned to exact revenge on him. He was attacked by some Critches, but Darius saved his life. Under the guise of an investigation, Philo seized the chance to speak with Millworthy, another survivor of the tragedy at Bleakness.

For the sake of the Fae people’s independence, Philo asked Millworthy to arrange ships for them to depart the city, and Millworthy complied. Philo saw Vignette and informed her that all plans had been made, but Vignette did not want to leave Philo alone in the city. She wanted him to return with them, which Philo had not considered. He was a half-blood with roots in the Burgue. Although leaving the city was painful for him, there was nothing left for him in this place. He couldn’t deny the fact that he wouldn’t be able to live in peace in a war-torn Burgue, which is why he had also desired to run away. The Burgish army led the Pix and Pucks to the port as they traveled toward the Row’s entryway. But even when the Critches were fleeing the city, there was still hostility and shame.

The humans attempted to incite the Critches to engage in combat with them, but the Critches persisted in walking towards their motherland in the hope of getting freedom. Vignette urged Philo to accompany them, which Philo eventually agreed to, but their homecoming never happened. As the Critches all made their way toward the ship, the Black Ravens appeared in the skies and set fire to the ship before the Critches could board. With Black Ravens attacking the Burguish guards, a massive Sparas flew down the port and began killing everyone who was there. The Pix were once more imprisoned in the Row once the Row’s entrance gate was once again closed.

Did Berwick Survive The Attack Of The Sparas?

Philo became separated from Vignette and witnessed Berwick getting attacked by the Sparas. To defend him from the creature, Philo sprinted in his direction, but when he arrived, he discovered Berwick had been killed. Philo, who had already decided to leave the city without investigating the human-killing creature, felt that he needed to remain in the Burgue. He realized that this Sparas wasn’t murdering people out of retaliation; rather, it had been under the power of something that had even caused it to kill the Pix. He made up his mind to remain in the burrow and investigate the beast in order to avenge the passing of his one and only close friend. Let’s see if he can uncover more information about the Sparas in the episode 8 of “Carnival Row” Season 2.
