Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhein starts out as an indulgent binge-worthy crime drama that grows more and more outlandish as the series progresses. This is a small town love story that is far removed from the modern concept of love. The themes that the show deals with are love, power, toxicity, politics, loyalty, revenge, and murder. In an effort to explore these themes, there are countless characters introduced to this show that add to the drama. Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhein now has a second season because there’s always an audience for this kind of romantic crime drama.

Purva
Anchal Singh, as Purva Awasthi, is the daughter of a powerful politician, Akheeraj Awasthi, and she never stops herself from using his position for her own benefit. She had been in love with Vikrant from a very young age and had moved away for many years. She comes back and meets Vikrant only with the intention of making him fall in love with her. Purva is a manipulative person who won’t hesitate to go out of her way to get what she wants. Since the show is set in the Hindi Belt region, there’s no shortage of people willing to do anything to win influence with the wealthy and powerful. Purva is aware of that, which is why she is able to convince people to contrive scenarios that would bring her and Vikrant closer to each other. Even as the second season starts, she is not afraid of the new people around her. She is in a hostage situation, yet she remains calm, as she is confident people will come to look for her and she’ll be rescued in no time. She does not hold back from threatening the people who have taken her, proving Purva is not a fragile woman and that she has been raised to be a strong person.Â
Vikrant
Tahir Raj Bhasin, one of the prolific actors of Hindi cinema, portrays the role of Vikrant. He is a leading character with plenty of shades of grey to his arc. Vikrant as a character wants to be the author of his own life as he has been raised to serve his father’s boss, Akheeraj Awsasthi. As a youngster, he wants to lead his life on his terms, but fate has other plans for him.Â
Vikrant is in love with his college beau, Shikha, but he is being pursued by Akheeraj’s daughter, Purva, who is showing no signs of slowing down. With life slipping out of his hand, he starts to do things that he might have been morally against from the start. The second season is also about Vikrant, how he’s unable to control the volatile situation as things begin to snowball. He is only a few steps away from being exposed but he goes out of his way to save himself from the wrath of Purva and her father, who might kill him if they ever come to know of his discretion.Â
Shikha
Shweta Tripathi, as Shikha, has been in love with Vikrant since college, and they had plans to be together. Sadly, life is not fair to them as Vikrant is forced to get married to Purva, the daughter of a powerful politician. To her horror, they send henchmen to kill her and her family just so that they do not become an obstacle to them. Shikha and her family get embroiled in Purva and her father’s dirty games. The whole idea is to put pressure on and make sure Shikha is not a cause of concern anymore. Even in the second season, Shikha hastily gets married to a police officer, but her mind is filled with plans set in motion by Vikrant to save both of them and her family. She is unable to focus on her marriage as she is enamored by the promises made by Vikrant and wants to follow in his footsteps and ideas to leave the country.
Jalaan
Arunoday Singh as Jalaan is seen in season one only in the last few episodes as the hitman hired by Vikrant to kill his wife Purva. Jalaan’s first attempt to kill Purva fails miserably. His next plan is to plant a bomb at the venue of Purva’s dance show, which again ended up going wrong. Jalaan, instead of killing Purva, keeps her as a hostage as he learns she is the only daughter of Akheeraj Awasthi. Jalaan has more screen time in the second season as he moves around with Purva in the back of his truck. He is also in a tense situation as his daughter has been kidnapped by Dilawar. Dilawar is a new character who has had a volatile past with Akheeraj. Amidst the rivalry between Akheeraj and Dilawar, Vikrant and Jalaan get involved, as both had their own agendas. Jalaan has to rescue his daughter at any cost, and just like Akheeraj, he would do anything to make that happen.
Akheeraj
Saurabh Shukla, as the patriarch, Akheeraj Awasthi, is a seasoned and ruthless politician. He is also Purva’s father, who goes out of his way to make sure she is happy. Akheeraj does not budge on any demand put forward by his daughter, and that starts with him hiring Vikrant at the behest of Purva. Akheeraj is a politician with a lot of influence, which is why Vikrant’s father does not think twice before agreeing to get him married to Purva. As the show goes to the second season, Akheeraj’s aim is to rescue Purva from the kidnappers and find out who orchestrated this plan, as he would want to kill that person. Akheeraj is anything but a good person, and just like his daughter, he has a thing for using power to his benefit and controlling people in his town, including his employees.Â
