Wild Wild Punjab has to be one of the insanely weird movies to have explored a comedy of errors by taking the Hangover route. Funnily enough, there is a reference to this cult-famous Hollywood film in Simarpreet Singh’s Wild Wild Punjab, which is all about a boy trying to find a cure for heartbreak, followed by closure. This is a Netflix original that has all kinds of quirky characters that add color to the movie.

Spoilers Ahead

Honey Singh

The amazing Manjot Singh from the Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and Fukrey films adds life to his character Honey Singh through Wild Wild Punjab. In this movie, Honey Singh is the richest and is proud of his heritage, part of which is his inheritance of the truck business from his beloved father. Honey loves and respects his deceased father, and he is always offended if anyone tries to tarnish his father’s image. Honey Singh is a young brattish man who encourages their friend Khanna to forget the woman who cheated on him and move on.

Unbeknownst to Honey, Gaurav Jain and Maan took advantage of him as he owned the best vehicle amongst the four. A little bit of massaging his ego always works in their favor who are planning to embark on a journey to Pathankot to help their friend confront his ex-girlfriend. Honey Singh is attached to his car, which he has fondly named ‘Paro’. As the story progresses, one can see he is the go-getter amongst all of them and goes out of his way to help Radha, a new member who joins the group and becomes their friend.

Gaurav Jain

Jassie Gill plays Gaurav Jain, who has been emotionally and verbally abused by his father since childhood, and he cannot seem to take a step or decision without his father’s permission. Gaurav’s father fixes his marriage by taking a heavy dowry, which the son is against. Gaurav has no agency, and the only people who know his situation are his friends Khanna, Maan, and Honey Singh. To his shock, in a very Hangover-esque turn of events, all the friends gatecrash a wedding on the way to Pathankot, and Gaurav ends up marrying the bride Radha, as she was rejected over dowry matters.

The next day, he understood the magnitude of his act and how he could be ousted from the family for marrying a stranger. Gaurav will have to either confront his father or find a way to divorce Radha to make sure his father does not make his life miserable. It is this journey with friends and Radha to Pathankot that will help him understand what needs to be done to take control of his life.

Maan Arora

Sunny Singh, a regular face in Luv Ranjan movies, is Maan Arora in Wild Wild Punjab. Taking full advantage of his good looks, Maan Arora is the definition of a playboy who has many women falling for him. Maan also happens to be a good friend of Khanna and Gaurav and gives them a reality check from time to time. It is Maan who suggests Khanna gatecrashes his ex-girlfriend’s wedding for closure. He could not stand a soft-hearted friend being rejected the way he was. On this journey, he meets the woman he loves and tries hard to keep her around and include her in the expedition. Maan is pretty face and was tough enough to take on anyone, but he wasn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed who frequently made missteps on their chaotic road trip.

Rajesh Khanna

Varun Sharma has made it a point to appear in all kinds of buddy comedies as either the saddest one or the dumbest one of the ensemble cast. He seems to pull this off with ease. In Wild Wild Punjab, Rajesh Khanna, aka Khanna, is a heartbroken lover who cannot contain himself after his ex-girlfriend unceremoniously leaves him for her boss, and she is set to marry the same man. The woman is Vaishali, and she has made sure to cut him out of her life. Khanna is in a vulnerable state, and his friends encourage the mentally fragile man to confront Vaishali and say to her face that he has moved on. He is pushed to believe the only way to get closure would be to utter those words. A drunk Khanna agrees to the plan, and thus begins their journey. Khanna is naïve, and he needs his friends around him so that he never strays  and makes another mistake.

Radha

Patralekha Paul is Radha, the wife who is left at the altar by the groom and his family for nonpayment of the dowry. Gaurav Jain steps in and marries her. Everyone initially assumed her to be the typical coy wife, but only as the movie progresses does she showcase her confident side, which comes across as a surprise to all, especially Gaurav. Radha helps Khanna in his plan to confront his ex-girlfriend without any judgment, and when the time comes, she uses a gun to stick up to the enemies when everyone in the car is in trouble. Radha comes across as a lot more confident and smart than many assumed her to be.

Meera

Ishita Raj plays Meera, a boisterous woman whose only aim is to make sure the drugs in her possession reach Daljeet and Dalbir, the brothers who supply drugs. Opportunity presents itself in the form of Maan, who is attracted to her, and she plans to initially take advantage of the situation. Matters escalate when she robs Daljeet and Dalbir, and the whole group she joined is now being hunted by the dangerous group of men. Meera is the epitome of a woman who only wants to save herself.

Vaishali

Asheema Vardaan plays Vaishali, the woman Khanna is in love with. Her breakup with Khanna was ugly, as implied from the plot, and she decides to move on by marrying the man she was having an affair with while in a relationship with Khanna. She begs him to move on rather rudely, which only further fuels Khanna’s anguish. Vaishali does not realize her exit from Khanna’s life will make him take a drastic step, as the man is on his way to confront her and give himself the closure he requires.

Daljeet and Dalbir

Samuel John as Daljeet and Anjum Batra as Dalbir are the businessmen brothers who has a poultry farm as their front while they run a drug supply business that brings them maximum profit. They are the stereotypical villains in a comedy film who indulge in tomfoolery. As brothers in the drug mafia business, their only aim is to make sure the contraband reaches them on time, which is why Meera is hired to deliver a small batch in return for a good amount.

Daljeet and Dalbir also make their own rules, which angers Meera as she believes they robbed her of a good deal. Meera is hanging around with the gang of boys who are on the way to Pathankot; all of them become Daljeet and Dalbir’s targets, as the brothers desperately want Meera, the money, and the drugs.

Inspector Avtar

Rajesh Sharma in a cameo as the Inspector Avtar with Punjab Police, who has a rocky start with the group who are on the way to Pathankot. His interference with their journey causes the detour required to help the men understand that things never work out the way they plan. Inspector Avtar eventually comes around, helps in times of adversity, and finds a ground for friendship.
