Why didn’t Vamika move on?

In Gyaarah Gyaarah, DSP Vamika Rawat, played by Kritika Kamra, stands out as a senior cop who always questions the justice system, especially among all the corrupt officers around her. From the beginning, it’s clear she’s different. Even though she knew Yug Arya, her colleague, had some issues—like joining protests and making statements in the media without consulting her—she supported him because she saw his genuine desire to help the people. She was willing to work with him and even took the heat for his actions as she knew it would help solve crimes. But Vamika wasn’t always this strong and principled. When she first joined the police force back in 1990, she was nervous, shy, and constantly apologetic. Her senior, Shaurya Anthwal, was the one who helped her find her confidence and taught her to trust her instincts. She looked up to him and wanted to be just like him. Unfortunately, the last time Vamika saw Shaurya was in 2001, when he left the precinct and vanished without a trace. Vamika never got to say goodbye, and she’s struggled to move on since then. She not only respected him deeply but also fell in love with him, something she never had the chance to tell him. Despite the years and not knowing if he’s alive or where he is, Vamika still holds onto the hope that he might come back someday. She’s even stayed single as she waited for him to return.

How did Vamika work as a common link between past and present?

Vamika Rawat played a key role as a bridge between the past, present, and future. Here’s how it all worked: Before leaving the police precinct, Shaurya Anthwal gave Vamika a wristwatch. There is a possibility that this watch might actually be a connector between different times. Vamika’s father, a scientist, had the idea that time is just an illusion—what we think of as the past and future all happen in the present. If we can understand this, we could connect across different times. In one scene, Shaurya’s father explains that these times work as a link between the past and present. Since time is an illusion and everything happens in the present, manipulating it could bring different times together, and that is why he still believes that Shaurya is with him even though they have not been able to find out what happened to him. The watch could be a crucial part of this connection.

Also, there is also a possibility that Vamika herself had been a connector in her own way. She started her career as Shaurya’s junior and later became a senior working with Yug Arya. This link allowed her to work on cases Shaurya had handled by helping Yug solve crimes connected to Shaurya’s past work. The connection only began in 1990, the year Vamika joined the force under Shaurya, which is why only the crimes from that period were being solved, not before that. Interestingly, Vamika didn’t even realize the full significance of the watch. Despite her deep respect and unresolved feelings for Shaurya, she might have been unconsciously avoiding closure about him. In a way, the connection happened more between Yug and Shaurya than between Vamika and Shaurya, which blended science fiction concepts with emotionality in a unique way in the series. Through this connection, Vamika and Yug, with Shaurya’s help from the past, manage to alter the future of crimes in their present timeline of 2016 by solving cases from the past, from 1990, 1998, and 2001.

What happened to Vamika?

Vamika was driven to solve crimes and challenge higher-ups because she saw how they often manipulated cases and failed to deliver true justice. They were more interested in media attention and quick fixes than actually solving crimes, which frustrated her. When Yug came along, she saw in him some qualities of her old mentor, Shaurya, and that made her believe in him. They formed an alliance, and together they tackled cases from the past, including a kidnapping from 2001 and a murder from 1990, with Shaurya’s indirect help. Vamika didn’t realize the full extent of the connection until they worked on a gang war case involving a man named Shamshera, who was falsely accused of killing Bablu Barud and his gang. Vamika was puzzled about how Yug could solve these cases and wondered if Shaurya might still be alive. Yug never told her the truth, as he knew she’d think he was crazy for connecting with Shaurya through a walkie-talkie.

When Vamika discovered that Shaurya had been deeply involved in this case since 1998 and hadn’t been able to deliver justice, she felt compelled to solve it herself, even if it meant risking her life. Unfortunately, Shamshera wasn’t involved in the crimes he was accused of; he was framed by a crime lord named Sultaniya and his men. Shamshera had worked for Sultaniya but he had left, and in retaliation, they framed him for murder and wanted to kill him. His daughter Garima sacrificed herself to save him, but he was left with a deep sense of injustice and anger. In a tragic turn, Shamshera’s anger at the corrupt justice system led him to target Vamika. He kidnapped Sultaniya’s girl and trapped her in a freezer van rigged with LPG. When Vamika tried to save the girl, the van exploded and burned her alive. It was a heartbreaking end for Vamika, who had only wanted to do the right thing. She was caught in the crossfire of Shamshera’s quest for revenge against a corrupt system, even though she herself was far from corrupt. It was like history repeating itself, which echoed the same injustice that killed her mentor, Shaurya too.

Since the past can be changed and the future can be altered because everything happens in the present, there’s still hope. There’s a chance that Yug might be able to connect with Shaurya, and together they could find a way to save Vamika. It’s not beyond possibility that they might find a way to keep her alive, given how time and events can be manipulated. So, even though Vamika faced a tragic end, there’s still a glimmer of hope that something might be done to change her fate.
