‘The Mole’ Season 2 Finale Recap & Ending: Who Was The Mole?

The eighth episode of season two of the Netflix original reality television show The Mole ended with Hannah being given the option of choosing money or an exemption out of the closed box kept in front of her. Such was the nature of the show; anyone could betray their team and survive the elimination. Episode eight ended on a cliffhanger as it was kept suspenseful as to what Hannah would choose. She was known to be money-minded but also a diligent team player, and the rest of the team was confident that she wouldn’t betray them.

The beginning of the ninth episode was all about finding out what Hannah chose. She came back to her group and proudly declared that she chose USD 20k over the exemption. The team was happy as Hannah only increased the money in the prize pot, which meant she wasn’t the mole. Everyone was somehow confident about the fact that Hannah was a team player and would not betray them. Hannah came back happy, retaining the trust all of them had in her. This was followed by a double elimination. By the end of this elimination, there would be four players remaining, one of whom was a mole. As expected, Ryan and Deanne were eliminated, and the rest of them headed towards Penang town hall to finish the task assigned to them. It involved getting hands-on with the artifacts, which must be identified with the help of a symbol. The value of each art piece was USD 30,000, which would give them a total of USD 60,000 in the prize pot if the team got the right art pieces. The art pieces had to be removed without setting off the alarm system. The only way to pick up the pieces was by one of the players being suspended from the rope from above.

Just like any other task, all of them were assigned to find clues on who could be the mole. Four of them had to carefully look for hints that would help them stop the person from sabotaging the task. The four of them did not trust each other, and it only added to the tension, which involved getting hold of the art on display as per the instructions given to them. Michael was given the task of being suspended from the rope, and it did not work as planned because the group ended up breaking several prized artifacts. All four of them could collect only one original artifact and bag themselves USD 30,000 for the prize pot. This is followed by Hannah’s elimination, and the remaining three will have to fight for the prize pot and identify the mole.

Muna was not a suspect, but she and Sean suspected Michael. Michael had been a suspect right from the bomb explosion task. He has been on the radar, and many have noticed the obvious mistakes he committed. The final task, however, had the three of them in a minefield surrounded by rice farms. The three of them must walk on a grid using a pattern that all of them have to memorize. One misstep would cause an explosion, and the team would lose the money assigned. The smallest one held USD 10,000, the slightly bigger one USD 15,000, and the largest and most complex one held USD 25,000. As each person plans to walk as per the pattern memorized by all, the two players outside would have to guide the one inside the grid. The first person to start the final game of season two of “The Mole” was Sean, but he lost the money. Michael walked through the second grid, but a misstep on his part cost them the money as well. Muna was the last person to walk through the last set of patterns, which were hard to memorize. All three had a hard time, but Muna eventually won USD 25,000 for the prize pot.

The total amount by the end of all the tasks was USD 154,000, and all three of them were excited. To announce who was the winner and the mole of this season, the showmakers invited the rest of the players who were eliminated throughout season two. Everyone had gathered to find out who the Mole was that had survived till the end of The Mole season 2. To everyone’s shock, Sean was the mole. Everyone, including the last three constants, assumed it was Michael because there were many telltale signs of it. Sean coming out as the mole was surprising, as no one assumed a stay-at-home father could pursue a role like this, which had him having to keep many secrets. Sean was happy to have been given this role and kept it to himself till the end. He may not have won the game, but he was excited about being given the chance to be someone else. There was also footage of Sean released, which was recorded by him throughout the season on how he hid his identity as a mole and was successful with some acts of sabotage.

The winner, however, of season two of The Mole was Michael. The match between the two was close, keeping in mind that it was Muna who won the past game. The last quiz they took part in was the game changer, and it decided the winner.
