Every fantasy fiction has countless characters that have a purpose to serve. Fantasy fiction stories contain aspects like powers, magic, prophecies, and mythical creatures that serve a bigger purpose for the narrative to move forwards. There are always many characters that guide the lead towards a goal they are supposed to complete to fulfill their destiny. In that process, he/she will have to sacrifice many things. Shahmaran is one such tale of good and evil powers along with mythical creatures. There are a couple of villain characters that add madness to the story.
Sahsu Demir
Serenay Sarikaya is the actress who plays the role of Sahsu Demir, the only granddaughter of Davut Demir. Her only aim in life so far is to find out why her grandfather abandoned her mother. Since she herself became a victim of abandonment after her father left her and her mother, Sahsu wanted to get to the bottom of things and get to know her estranged grandfather. Apart from finding out about her dysfunctional family members, she gets friendly with Davut’s rich neighbors. Initially, she comes across as someone who had a shady past, but it turns out she only wanted answers, though she inadvertently ends up falling for Maran, the rich neighbor who was a perfumer. Sahsu receives vivid dreams about a woman in the well and a snake slithering on her or in her surroundings.Â
Sahsu comes from a line of strong women who are very independent, and she does not believe in giving up everything for the sake of love. As a psychology professor, she is good at her job. She began to notice someone was following her. Sahsu, however, is drawn to Maran, the handsome brooding neighbor, without realizing their meeting was destined and was written in the prophecy of Shahmaran. The more she gets attracted to Maran, the more there is tension between the two. Only time will tell if she is ready to be a part of the prophecy and help Maran fulfill it.Â
Maran Yaloglu
Burak Deniz as Maran, the lead protagonist of Shamaran, is the typical brooding man, the likes of which we’ve seen before in the Twilight series. He is a basilisk, which is half snake and half human, born into a family of the same kind. Maran and his family, which consists of his father and three sisters, are staunch followers of Shahmaran and believe the basilisk goddess really existed.Â
Maran, though, was avoiding Sahsu, but her arrival did set the prophecy in motion, as his sisters claimed it would. His sisters are the ones pushing him to pursue Sahsu. Maran ends up saving Sahsu from various near-death incidents, which only serves to bring them closer. Maran is trying to fulfill the prophecy and he is slowly falling in love with Sahsu. His only aim is to not hurt her in his pursuit to be in a relationship with her. There will be a time when Maran will have to talk about the prophecy with Sahsu.
Davut Gemir
Mustafa Ugurlu, the grandfather of Sahsu, is in a state of shock after finding out she came to the province of Adana to meet him. The man went radio silent on her as Sahsu had many questions about the life he had led after abandoning her mother. Davut was aware he did nothing wrong, and he showed all the letters her mother had written to him to which he never responded to. Davut was not sure how to converse with or what to say to Sahsu, but he soon ended up becoming a protective parental figure as he noticed a closeness between his granddaughter and Maran. There is a bridge slowly building between the granddaughter and Davut himself, but as time progresses, they will find a way to communicate and find out more about each other.Â
Ural
Mahir Günsiray, as Ural, the father of Maran and his sisters, was the main force behind fulfilling the prophecy. He was also a basilisk, just like Maran, and working towards making the Shahmaran prophecy a success. Unlike his daughters, who were relentlessly pushing Maran to pursue Sahsu he did not do so as he was more concerned about the sightings of the omen. Ural was a doctor, and could be compared to Edward’s father in the Twilight series. He goes out of his way to find out if any omens are being sighted that would indicate the prophecy is any closer to being fulfilled. Ural is a complicated character who has surrounded himself with people of his intellectual caliber, who would help him find out more about someone who could be trying to sabotage their plan to bring Maran and Sahsu together.Â
Cihan
Mert Ramazan Demir as Cihan joined Sahsu in the same university as her colleague. The man initially became good friends with her as they shared stories about their life. Cihan is the only person Maran is jealous of because of his proximity to Sahsu. Cihan’s father, Lakmu, is a part of a congregation that wants to fulfill the prophecy. However, he has other ideas after making a deal with the devil in the hoodie, who was following him all the time. Cihan is bound to switch sides, but as the story progresses, a lot will be revealed about him and his allegiances.Â
Diba, Hare, and Bike
Berfu Halisdemir as Diba, Nilay Erdönmez as Hare, and Nil Sude Albayrak as Bike; all three of them are sisters of Maran born from another mother, as mentioned by him to Sahsu at some point in the show. As siblings, all four of them are close, and just like Maran, they are basilisks as well—part human and part snake—who knew a lot about the Shahmaran prophecy. Diba is a student of Sahsu at the university, along with her older sisters, they want to bring their brother and Sahsu together. Hare is a painter, but she knows there is a connection between her brother and the woman next door. All the women at some point hyped Maran to pursue Sahsu in the hope both would come closer and eventually become a couple. They also help him shed his skin, as it is understood this phenomenon is a recurring one. The sisters, however, have a lot to uncover about the mystery of Shahmaran and what kinds of omens are yet to be sighted for the prophecy to fulfill.
