Lifetime movies most of the time come across as cookie cutter. Most of the time there’s no such thing as a shock element, as most of the films released on the Lifetime channels are predictable in nature. Secret Life of a Sorority Girl is a story of a young girl and her mother. The relationship they share is tested in the wake of one of them getting kidnapped.

Were matters between Cheryl and Ashley not good?
Cheryl Collins was a popular mathematics teacher in a local school. Her only daughter Ashley entered college through a scholarship and was expecting to do well academically. Ashley had a boyfriend, Beckett, who was supportive of her. Ashley had grown distant from her mother and boyfriend over the course of a few weeks, and both were clueless about what was going on in her life. Cheryl learns from her colleague that her daughter Ashley worked as a stripper in a shady club. On confronting Ashley, she learns her daughter had lost her scholarship, which forced her into this position. Beckett shamed her and was livid at her for not informing him about the new side hustle. Ashley broke up with him immediately, and she also had a falling out with Cheryl over her new job.
Why did Ashley disappear?
Karla, Ashley’s friend from the sorority house, informed Cheryl about her daughter being missing for the last few days since the argument. Cheryl panicked, as she did not expect her daughter to disappear. Cheryl had a strong instinct that Ashley’s disappearance from the sorority house reeked of foul play.
What did Cheryl do to find her daughter?
Cheryl had to take matters into her own hands and get to the bottom of the truth, she planned to join the same club where her daughter had worked as a stripper. Cheryl wore a wig so that no one recognized her and hoped to get answers from the women who worked with Ashley. Initially, she had no issues mingling with people, including Dolly Grimsley, the manager of the club. Cheryl met Jake, a bartender working at the club. She hoped to get to know him and the rest of the management and staff through him. Jake and Cheryl soon started falling for each other as they began to spend time together.
Who planned to help Cheryl?
Cheryl was approached by Sunny, another stripper at the same club who was willing to help her out. Cheryl revealed she was Ashley’s mother and she was desperate to look for any information that would provide any lead. Sunny was found dead the next day, and this shocked Cheryl. She realized both her and Sunny had been on the right path, but it had ended in a tragedy.
Was Jair a suspect?
Jair was one of the patrons in the club who was obsessing over Cheryl. She and Jake were getting intimate at her home but Jair was caught peeping in on them, and he was immediately arrested. However, Jair was released with a warning, which made Cheryl angry.
Did Ashley get married?
Karla informed Cheryl that Ashley’s things from her room were gone, and they’d found a note that was supposedly written by her. The note stated she had eloped and gotten married. Cheryl and Karla noticed the note had been typed and had her signature on it. Her instinct said Ashley was alive, but not married as per the clues left by the people who abducted her.
Why did Beckett take money?
Cheryl and Karla suspected Beckett, as he’d gone out of his way to shame Ashley to their friends. Karla was soon found dead too, which freaked Cheryl out, as she knew she could be the next target. Beckett informed Cheryl that he was given money to ransack Ashley’s room and place the note. Beckett was feeling guilty as the situation snowballed, and he had to come clean about his role in making matters worse. Beckett said he could not recognize the person who offered him money, but he had noticed that the perpetrator was in a blue sports convertible.
Who kidnapped Ashley?
Cheryl finally found a lead, but looking for a blue sports convertible was a hard task. She located the car but was shocked to find out the blue convertible belonged to one of the patrons of the club, Rick, a rich businessman. Cheryl followed Rick and trespassed into his house only to find Ashley tied up in the basement of his house. The young girl was sickly because of the unhygienic conditions and lack of food in the basement. Ashley was relieved to see her mother, and Cheryl was content to find Ashley alive. Cheryl wanted to find out the motive behind Ashley’s captivity and what Rick’s connection was to the kidnapping.
How did Cheryl help her daughter Ashley escape?
Rick caught Cheryl and tried to kill her. Rick seemed like someone who had mental health issues which he’d never channeled well from a young age. Rick had kept the young girl hostage and forced her to be submissive to his love. Once Cheryl showed up, Rick was afraid Ashley would be taken away from him. Since this was a serious crime, Rick would not be able to evade arrest. The shocking part of the night was Jake showing up and revealing Rick was his brother. Jake came clean about his role in kidnapping Ashley and killing Sunny and Karla. Since the two women had been close to finding out where Ashley was, Jake had had to step up and save him and Rick from being implicated. Jake turned out to be completely the opposite of what Cheryl expected. He was only involved with her to find out how close Cheryl had come to finding Ashley, as this was his way to remain several steps ahead of her. Cheryl came up with a plan to lure the men into having dinner with her and Ashley. Rick was given the impression that Ashley wouldn’t leave him, while Cheryl planned to manipulate Jake. Cheryl learnt Rick was the gullible one, and she could use him to get Jake to agree to what she wanted. Rick was in love with the stripper version of Ashley and his obsession made him believe a young woman like her would do anything for money, even marry a rich man like himself.
As the dinner was served, the mother and daughter had things in line planned to get out of Rick’s house. Cheryl and Ashley began to unleash the moves they used in the club after the dinner. Rick fell for the trap and was killed by Cheryl. Since he was mentally unstable, he was capable of harming the women if he sensed there was a trap being set up for them. Jake was smart enough to realize Cheryl and Ashley were up to something. He was in no mood to get arrested, as he had worked all his life to give his brother whatever he wanted. He could never lead a normal life if he was arrested for the crimes committed by him and Rick. As he overpowered Cheryl, Ashley killed him. The mother and the daughter were rescued quickly after this ordeal. Ashley had to take matters into her own hands to save her mother. Cheryl risked her professional life as a math teacher to find Ashley. She was forever indebted to her mother from this point on. The mother and daughter finally established a bond which had been missing for a while.
Secret Life of a Sorority Girl ended with Cheryl being felicitated for her heroic deed by the local authorities. Cheryl was initially removed from her job as math teacher as her colleague spotted her in the strip club. After the courageous act of saving her daughter, Cheryl was reinstated, and she became a popular figure in the town especially amongst young girls and women. The local police that questioned her parenting skills were soon lauding her bravery. Being appreciated for her bravery was enough as Cheryl was happy to find Ashley alive.
