The season to be jolly continues as there is no dearth of holiday films releasing on Netflix. One after another, the streaming platform keeps dropping stories surrounding Christmas, and it is interesting to watch the themes the filmmakers are exploring with Christmas as a backdrop. As mentioned in my The Snow Sister article, there are some good stories coming up. Our Little Secret is the story of two ex-lovers who realize they’ve ended up dating a pair of siblings. They would rather not let their partners know about their past. Chaos ensued as many other secrets of the family came out.

Did Avery and Logan break up?
Our Little Secret began with Avery’s father’s voiceover describing how his daughter and Logan met. Both have been together since their youth and their friendship turned into love over the years. As their love only grew stronger, their careers initially did not affect it. Avery, amidst everything, lost her mother, and some time after that, she was offered a job in London, which she took up. For the first time, a rift appeared between Avery and Logan, as the latter was not sure why she was making a big move without talking about the status of their relationship. As they were meeting both her father and his mother on Christmas night, a drunk Logan proposed to her. Logan claimed her father felt both had it in them to go take their relationship all the way. A shocked Avery had to reject his proposal and broke up with him over his attempt to keep her from moving to London. The breakup was inevitable, and Avery had to do it for her own sake. Logan felt she was moving to London to get away from the pain of losing her mother, and he was collateral damage to her conflicted feelings.
Where did Logan and Avery meet each other after ten years?
Ten years later, in the year 2024, Avery was dating Cam, and Logan was dating Cassie. Unbeknownst to the ex-lovers, their partners were siblings. Both Logan and Avery had decided to spend Christmas with their partner’s parents. Avery’s father had remarried and was planning to sell the house as he was retired. She was not happy with the decision because there were lots of memories of her and her mother in that home. She understood why her father was making this move. Logan’s mother and grandmother were also okay with him visiting Cassie’s parents on their invitation. On reaching their partner’s home, Avery was nervous about meeting Cam’s mother, Erica, who was known to be judgmental and uptight about any woman her son dated. Avery and Logan eventually met each other as they were introduced as Cam and Cassie’s respective partners. Both met discreetly, and Avery established her stance over not mentioning their dating history to Cam’s family, especially to Erica. However, Logan was okay with letting Cassie know, since the relationship ended a decade ago. Both eventually decided not to let anyone know that they dated.
Why did Logan want Avery’s help?
Logan, who worked as a construction contractor, was having a tough time in his job as there was very little to no money in. Logan was aware Avery was a successful business consultant and wanted him to make a proposal to Cassie’s family friend Stan, who was in the construction business. Avery asked him to make a proposal based on his ideas, which she could then work on. In return she asked him to help her impress Erica, as Cassie’s mother liked Logan as Cassie’s partner but was not a fan of Avery.
How did Logan save Avery?
Logan and Avery headed out to buy the Christmas tree, and Logan picked out a good one. When Erica began to praise him, he passed on the credit to Avery. Sadly, on their way back home, Avery had accidentally ingested cannabis-laced gummies that she’d found in the jacket she had worn. The jacket belonged to Cassie and Cam’s younger brother, Callum. Logan and Avery quickly realized Callum had a drug habit but chose to keep it to themselves. Callum, however, overheard Logan and Avery talking about them having dated in the past. Callum began to blackmail them to help him cover for his drug abuse issues.
Did Avery poison Erica’s pet?
Avery, who was high, ended up eating a lot of chocolate cookies as she was hungry. She quickly realized the cookies had been made by Erica for a town program. She shifted the blame onto Erica’s tiny pet dog, Veronica. Erica, however, panicked and took Veronica to a vet, and Avery joined her as a show of support. Avery wanted to prove to Erica she was a reliable person, asked Erica to stay out of the procedural room, and explained the situation to the doctor to make sure Veronica does not accidentally die. Veronica was saved thanks to Avery, and everything that happened was pushed under the rug thanks to her presence of mind. Erica, however, introduced Stan’s daughter Sophie to Avery and Logan. She claimed Sophie and Cam were inseparable, which made Avery wonder if her boyfriend and Sophie had a past that he never shared.
What did Sophie reveal?
Sophie, at a party, revealed that Erica hadn’t gel well with any of Cam’s girlfriends in the past. This makes Avery also wonder if Erica wanted her son and Sophie to be together. She also saw a moment of chemistry between Cam and Sophie but she brushed it away the next moment. Avery had to head to her father’s home for some sale-related work, and Logan chose to drive her down as he knew she was sensitive about her childhood home. Once Avery was back home, she shared that it was probably her mother’s death that triggered her to move to London and their breakup. Since this happened many years ago, Logan did not make a big deal of it as they were with their own respective partners. So far Avery and Logan had chosen to be friends and not annoy each other about their breakup, which was a sign of them having moved on.
What happened on Christmas?
Erica, a few days before Christmas, wanted to set up the secret Santa, as it was a family tradition. On the day of Christmas, Logan accidentally ran into Leonard, Cassie’s father, kissing Sophie’s mother, Margaret. Both begged him to keep his lips sealed about it, and Logan did so out of obligation. Logan was tired of keeping secrets, as he felt his and Avery’s past should have been discussed with Cam and Cassie. He was also trying to keep Callum safe out of obligation, which was again too much for him to take.
Logan’s mother and grandmother showed up as a surprise set by Cassie for him. Logan let his mother know about the Avery situation, but did not bother to include his grandmother since she had dementia. He figured his grandmother would not recognize Avery. To his shock, she accidentally revealed that she and Logan were together many years ago. This led to Pandora’s box opening up, as Cassie and Cam asked many questions to Logan and Avery in front of the family. Avery and Logan Both came clean about their past, which made Erica, Cam, and Cassie uncomfortable. This also led to Erica revealing that Leonard and Margaret were having an affair, which shocked the children. Erica was under the impression Logan was going to propose marriage to Cassie, but he was forced to say that he had no intention of doing so. Since this was Christmas chaos was bound to happen. The relationships in this scenario were dysfunctional. There were many truth bombs that were dropped in front of people they claimed to care for.
Erica being nonchalant about the affair revealed that she did not care if her marriage was not healthy and happy. To the world, she and her husband were rich and happy. Since she was not happy with Leonard, she chose to focus on being overprotective and controlling towards her children. Avery chose to go back home since the mess had definitely caused a strain on her relationship with Cam. She, however, wanted to know if Cam and Sophie had hooked up sometime in the last few days, and he did not deny it. This was the answer she was looking for, and she realized her instincts had been accurate. She and Cam broke up, and unlike last time, it was an amicable breakup. She moved back to the city in no time, looking forward to a life away from the mess that happened. Logan also had a long-awaited talk with Cassie, and it was assumed that they too broke up as they were not compatible, mostly because of the age difference. Logan and Avery bid their goodbyes without finishing the project she was supposed to be helping him with.
Why did Avery and Logan reconcile after a decade?
Avery was back in her job in the city when she was visited by her father. Her father, on reaching her home revealed that he was not planning to sell his home, anymore. He instead gave it to Avery as he knew her mother’s memories were too precious for her. Avery had not expected this, as she had given up on having anything nice for herself, especially when she lost her mother over a decade ago. Even her relationship with Cam was shaky right from the start, and it only needed a push for it to end. She and Cam could have made it work, but it turns out they weren’t meant for it. The home would be something she could hold onto even though she couldn’t hold down a steady relationship ever since the breakup with Logan. Her father, however, only had good things to say of him even after all these years. She chose to help him with the business proposal, which had been abandoned ever since their breakups with Cam and Cassie.
Avery tidied up the proposal and shared it with Erica. She knew the only person who could possibly help Logan was Cam’s mother, since she was friends with Stan. Avery figured Erica had a good side and tapped into that by letting her know she would visit her home every day until the proposal was shared with Stan. Stan and Erica were still friends after finding out about their partners’ affair. It was not made clear if Margaret and Leonard had gotten together as a result of their affair. Avery, however, wanted to make sure she helped Logan, and he went out of his way to make sure Erica liked her. This was indeed the right way for Avery to go about it, as she knew no other way how to help Logan.
Logan and his boss were approached by Stan. Stan made it clear that he was keen on working on Logan’s idea. Logan was happy that he was finally able to make a breakthrough in his career. He felt his career was at a standstill, and since he was with Cassie, many assumed he was with her for the money her parents had. The breakup came at the right time, since he was able to now prove himself to be a good contractor, as Stan was very happy with his work. Stan asked Logan to let Avery know that the deal worked. This was when Logan realized Avery had kept her word and improved the business proposal to make him look like a desirable candidate for Stan’s project. Logan was happy that Avery helped him, and he realized he loved her.
Our Little Secret ended with Avery throwing a going-away party at her home in the city as she was moving back to her childhood house. It was not mentioned which town or city Avery and Logan lived in, but it was not hard to assume that she would be moving back to the suburbs. To her surprise, Logan showed up and confessed his love for her. The reason could be him finally understanding Avery for who she was and having accepted it. They had to meet after a lifetime of dating other people to finally realize that he still loved her. They were together for many years, and a decade was the time they were apart. They could still remain friends even after their first bitter breakup, which was a sign that they cared for each other. This time Avery did not reject Logan’s proposal, as she loved him too. She felt she was slowly moving on from the pain of losing her mother and realized only Logan could understand her past and accept her for who she was. However, her acceptance was sudden, as there was never any indication that both still loved each other when they were at Cam and Cassie’s home. It came across as friends being there for each other rather than exes rekindling their old romance.
A year after Avery said yes to Logan, it could be presumed that he’d begun his work on Stan’s project. It could also be presumed Logan and Avery had gotten married and moved back into her father’s home, which was hers now. Stan came by to deliver the chocolate cookies for Christmas. Stan and Erica were now together, which indicated that they had left their respective spouses. Erica and Stan remained more than just friends after everything that happened on Christmas night the previous year. The last shot of Our Little Secret was Erica asking Avery to share the cookies. It could be an indication of the fact that her ex’s mother probably knew the Veronica episode was her doing. Avery surprisingly had not shared the incident at the pet store with Logan, which was why he was keen to know what the secret between her and Erica was. Avery chose to keep it between her and Erica as they wanted to keep it as a memory. Avery and Erica were finally on good terms, and all thanks to Logan.
