How did Memo become part of the group?
At the start of the series at Heroes of the Revolution High School, we were introduced to Memo. From the moment he entered the school, you could see how terrified he was. He had never made friends before, and people thought he was something of a creep. His only real friend was his driver, who was about the same age as his father. The driver told Memo to be brave and not be afraid of the bullies, but that wasn’t an easy task. Diego, the popular guy at school, and his minions were always ready to pick on him. Memo got a break when he helped Alex, another popular student. Alex accidentally dropped some money, and Memo returned it instead of keeping it. This act of kindness left a big impression, and Alex decided to help Memo. He took Memo under his wing and introduced him to his group of nerdy friends: Tenoch, Daniela, and Marifer, his girlfriend. This group had a little business at school where they traded knowledge for money. Basically, they helped classmates with homework and exam solutions. Memo wasn’t academically gifted, but he was very good at English because he had traveled a lot as a child. So, he joined their business to make some money and support his friends. For the first time in his life, Memo felt happy and proud to make friends. For a wallflower like him, it felt like a real achievement.
How did Alex resolve the issue with Diego?
Alex wasn’t always this kind of person. He used to be a bully, just like Diego. But after his mother passed away, Alex tried to become a better person. Spending time with Marifer and his group of friends helped him change for the better. So, even though he told Diego not to pick on Memo and Diego didn’t listen, Alex decided to stop doing business with Diego and his crew. This decision shocked everyone, because Diego was the most popular guy at school. If he wasn’t getting homework from Alex and his group, no one else would, and their business would be in trouble. Both Alex and Diego had big egos and typical teenage angst, but there was a softer side to Diego. He secretly dated Daniela, and when she asked him not to hurt her friends, he took it to heart. In the end, Alex and Diego had a talk. Alex made Diego promise that he wouldn’t hurt Memo or his friends again if he wanted Alex to continue doing business with him. Diego, despite trying to act tough, knew deep down that without their help, he wouldn’t pass his exams, and if he failed, he wouldn’t be able to play soccer anymore. So, he finally agreed to Alex’s terms.
What happened with Alex and Marifer?
Alex and Marifer had been in a long-term relationship; still, Alex seemed uninterested in being intimate with her. At first, Marifer thought there might be something wrong with her, especially since Alex had broken up with his ex, who was quite attractive. But then, Marifer began to realize that, although she was happy spending time with Alex, he didn’t seem genuinely happy with her. It was like he was forcing himself to love her. Then she noticed something else: Rafael, a new guy working at Alex’s father’s video store, seemed to make Alex truly happy. He wanted to talk to Rafael and watch movies with him. When Marifer confronted Alex about this at Mariana’s birthday party, it was a huge shock to everyone. After all, Alex was a heartthrob for most of the girls in school. It couldn’t be true! Alex felt ashamed for having feelings for another guy, especially since it was the 90s, and being open about such feelings wasn’t easy in a mostly homophobic crowd. But Alex couldn’t hide his feelings any longer. He realized he truly liked Rafael. Even when Rafael decided to leave the video store to avoid causing more trouble in Alex’s life, Alex didn’t care. He came to terms with his feelings and confessed his love for Rafael. Alex stopped lying to everyone, including himself. By the end, Alex and Marifer broke up, but Alex was finally honest about who he was and what he wanted.
What happened to Memo?
Memo became quite popular at school. He not only made friends but also gained a fan following. At Mariana’s party, he got so drunk that he danced his heart out, and people went wild for it. For someone as introverted as Memo, dancing like that was a huge deal, and it made him a star in everyone’s eyes. Before this, when their English professor assigned homework, Memo and Marifer took on the task of doing it for everyone. But after her breakup with Alex, Marifer was too upset to help, so Memo ended up doing all the homework by himself. He was amazing, but his writing style was too similar across all the papers. The professor suspected it was Memo’s work, obviously. That’s why Tenoch and his group decided to lay low and put their business on hold’ or ‘put a pause on their business to avoid getting caught by the teachers. But they did not know that this would actually be Memo’s last time helping out his friends. Unfortunately, Memo was about to leave. His father had become the new vice president for Latin America region, and they were moving to San Diego. Memo begged his parents to let him stay, but they insisted on him moving with them. Memo was devastated.
After finally making great friends and being happy, he didn’t want to leave all that behind. He didn’t want to burden his friends with his feelings since they all had their own problems. Tenoch was struggling to collect money because their business was shutting down, and he couldn’t afford a computer anymore. Daniela and Diego were having issues with their secret relationship; Daniela wanted to be Diego’s official girlfriend, but he wasn’t ready for that. Marifer was still heartbroken over her breakup with Alex and drowned herself in music, while Alex was confused but happy about his new feelings for Rafael. So, Memo decided to help his friends one last time. He consoled Alex and thanked him for helping him make friends. He gave all his CDs to Marifer so she could have music to lift her spirits and move on. He told Diego to stop hurting Daniela because his friend didn’t deserve that.
For Tenoch, he gave him his computer and even stole the midterm physics exam paper from the teacher’s room so Tenoch could help the students one last time and earn some money. All the while, Memo kept his own pain hidden. He didn’t want to share his struggles because he didn’t want to bring down his friends, who already had their own issues. He hoped that, at the very least, he’d have his last memories filled with friends and maybe even a chance to be with Marifer if she felt the same way. But it was too late. Tenoch went to thank Memo at his house, and Marifer was coming to confess her feelings to him. When Tenoch and Marifer arrived, they found out that Memo had committed suicide. It turned out that the person who had always looked out for everyone had had no one to look out for him.
What happened between Daniela and Diego?
After Memo’s death, everything felt different. Even though Memo might have thought he was insignificant and that no one would remember him, Memo had actually made a huge impact on his classmates. Remember how Memo talked to Diego about not hurting Daniela? Well, Diego did end up breaking up with his girlfriend Mariana and decided to be with Daniela, as he finally realized how much Daniela meant to him. But Daniela knew Diego well and how unpredictable men are. Her mother had been mistreated by men throughout her life, and Daniela had seen that pattern. She pleaded with Diego to show her respect and hoped he would take her as his official girlfriend, but Diego didn’t take any action. Diego was worried about his status. Mariana was popular and beautiful, while Daniela was “chubby” and such a nerd. Even after being intimate with Daniela, Diego didn’t give her any clarity about their relationship. After Memo’s death, Diego suddenly wanted to show sympathy and be Daniela’s boyfriend, but Daniela wasn’t interested anymore. She knew she needed to protect herself and focus on her own well-being. She didn’t want to be blind in love and end up in a situation like her mother’s. So, Daniela decided to take a step back from dating and work on herself. She knew she needed to be strong and not settle for less, and she wanted to make sure she wasn’t just another part of Diego’s pity party.
In No One Will Miss Us’ ending, we see Tenoch, Alex, Marifer, and Daniela initially thinking they wouldn’t continue their business anymore. However, they decided to solve the physics exam paper that Memo had stolen from the teacher’s room as a final tribute to him. They wanted to honor his memory one last time. But the paper got changed at the last minute, and everyone knew they were going to fail. This sparked a big argument between Alex and Diego. In a fit of rage, Diego exposed their business to the principal. And of course, the principal threatened to expel them from school. Tenoch, however, had a plan. He knew how to deal with the principal and told him that, without their help, students would fail their exams, and the school’s reputation would suffer. So, he proposed that they continue their business, and the students would keep passing their exams, improving their grades, and the principal should just have to turn a blind eye. In exchange, Tenoch offered to donate the computer that Memo had given him to the school. So, it turns out that, even after his death, Memo ended up saving the day once again.
