‘Mirzapur’ Season 3 Post Credits Scene Explained: Will Maqbool Kill Kaleen Bhaiya?

As we binged through the third season of Mirzapur, the question that came frequently to mind was what happened to Maqbool, who was one of the important characters in the series thus far, and why he hasn’t appeared throughout the season. We finally learn the answer in the post-credits sequence of the season finale, where Maqbool is shown to be working in a stone mine and is approached by Radhiya, who informs him that Beena Tripathi has summoned him. If you have not forgotten how intricately Maqbool was involved in Tripathi family turmoil in the previous season, the build-up to the post-credit scene will be pretty understandable. Given how terse the atmosphere of the UP underworld turned out to be in this season, the inevitable power struggle will test the might of every crime lord, including Kaleen Bhaiya, and Maqbool could be the trump card who can bring about the ultimate downfall of the present king of Mirzapur. To give viewers a comprehensive idea of the future possibilities regarding Maqbool, we will try to explain the situation as simply as possible.

Spoilers Ahead

Why Did Beena Summon Maqbool?

To explain the significance of Maqbool’s return and why Beena summoned him, we have to take a look back at the past. Maqbool used to be Kaleen’s right-hand man and had served the Tripathis through three generations (Bauji, Kaleen, and Munna). Being loyal to a fault, Maqbool has put his neck on the line for the Tripathis on a number of occasions, but all of that changed in the second season when Munna unwittingly killed Maqbool’s mother. Instead of disciplining Munna for his heinous actions, Bauji and Kaleen decided to defend him while visiting Maqbool during his mother’s funeral. Especially Bauji’s derisive, egotistical remark about the death as Tripathis taking the life they owed in the first place, irked Maqbool the most. The Tripathis had established their dominance with the muscle and security provided by Maqbool and others like him, and now they needed a reminder of that. After waiting for the perfect opportunity, Maqbool decided to take his revenge by killing Bauji. Killing Kaleen’s guardian to avenge his own was how he wanted to exact his revenge.

However, after Maqbool injured Bauji and rendered him unable to wield weapons, Beena Tripathi saw the opportunity to get out of the hellish cycle of sexual exploitation (by Bauji) and took it upon herself to hack Bauji to death to relish the taste of sweet revenge herself. Obviously, back then, Beena hadn’t considered the possibility of getting exposed, as Maqbool had gone into hiding, and Kaleen considered him to be the killer instead. Bauji’s death weakened the Tripathis big time, and Guddu and Golu used this opportunity to kill Munna and injure Kaleen, all thanks to Beena’s association with the larger conspiracy. Beena assured herself that whatever happens, the only surviving Tripathi, Kaleen, won’t be able to return to her life ever again, and she will raise her newborn in freedom.

However, in the third season, Kaleen Bhaiya makes a strong comeback with CM Madhuri’s assistance, takes the seat of Mirzapur, and takes his family along with him as well. This time, Beena is scared that the truth might get exposed. Upon learning that she is responsible for Bauji’s death and conspiring with Guddu and Golu, Kaleen will inevitably take her life. Which is why she needs the assistance of Maqbool, as he might assist her in a secret against a common enemy. Another aspect that Beena isn’t aware of is that Maqbool knew about Kaleen’s infertility, and by connecting the dots, he can figure out that Beena’s newborn son is in fact not a Tripathi progeny at all, which will jeopardize the life of the child as well.

Will Maqbool become the key to dethroning Kaleen?

Maqbool’s inclusion in the fourth season might be a major game-changer not only for Beena but also for Kaleen’s enemies, especially Guddu and Golu. Thanks to Madhuri’s backing, Beena holds certain influence, which she can use to strengthen Maqbool’s grip and use him to destroy Kaleen and his legacy once and for all. On the other hand, there might be a partnership between Maqbool and the Golu/Guddu duo once again due to the common enemy motive. Having the support of Kaleen’s formerly most trusted accomplice will allow the duo to hurt Kaleen from within. Alternatively, Maqbool might renew his vows, return to Kaleen, and expose Beena to prove his loyalty. Another possibility arises in the form of a third party—if the crime lords of west UP decide to use Maqbool to thwart Kaleen’s dominance—in the form of taking revenge for his actions in the third season. There are multiple possibilities now that Maqbool has been dragged back into the bloody power grab, but what is certain is that none of the players can be trusted in the long run.
