‘Mechanic Rocky’ Ending Explained & Full Story: Did Rakesh And Priya Catch The Insurance Scammers?

Telugu movies are one of a kind. There are some good movies that really care about realism, while there’s also commercial films that have outlandish stories that take place right in the middle of the city. One such film is Mechanic Rocky, which is a story of a garage owner who wants to save his establishment and comes across an insurance policy that could be just what he needs to save him. The film follows the obstacles he runs into.

Spoilers Ahead

Why was Rocky sharing his past with Maya?

Mechanic Rocky began with a woman coming back from work and having a tense argument with her mother about her brother, who does not financially contribute to the family. Moments after that he was seen hanging himself to death. The movie moves to Hyderabad, where Rocky was dealing with legal matters regarding his garage. The garage, owned by himself and his father, and they provided driving classes as well. Maya came by for a lesson and overheard his conversation with his colleague Harsha about bank loans and some other cases. A curious Maya asked him about the matter bothering him, and he began to share the story of how his father came to own this garage. It started with his grandfather, who was known to be blunt with people in his hometown. This angered some of the rowdies, and they forced him out of the town, and hence he moved to Hyderabad. His grandfather started his own garage, which was passed down to Rocky’s father, Rama Rao.

Rama Rao’s only dream was to visit all the pilgrimage sites from Kashmir to KanyaKumari. Rakesh, aka Rocky, grew up to be a nuisance, and he was thrown out of college for stealing a question paper. A while before that happened, he was good friends with Priya and her brother. Priya and Rocky were very close until he left college. On joining his father as mechanic, Rocky expanded the scope of the place by starting driving lessons. He met Priya again, who became his driving student, and he learned that her brother had committed suicide. Rocky also revealed that he and his father were harassed by Ranki Reddy as he wanted to buy the garage. Rocky confronted Ranki Reddy, and ever since, the harassment increased but Rocky was not willing to budge. He let Maya know about the tickets for the pilgrimage trip he purchased for his father. However, he also added that on the same day his father passed away, which shocked Maya.

What was Priya’s history?

Priya revealed that she was from a middle-class family and had lost her father to a heart attack. She had to take up various jobs until she landed work with a construction company. Part of her job was to drive her boss around, and as a result, she had to take driving lessons from Rocky. Priya revealed that her brother hardly provided for the family financially, and she began to notice he had stolen gold and money from the house. The arguments between the siblings escalated, which led to him committing suicide, connecting her story to the prologue of the film.

Was Rocky in a dire situation?

Rocky’s garage was being demolished by Ranki Reddy and his men. They wanted to extort money from Rocky to get possession over the land the garage stood on. Rocky asked them for some time, and at the same time, Maya let him know his father had a two crore life insurance policy. Initially, Rocky assumed he would be able to repay Ranki Reddy with the insurance money. Maya let him know that his father or the insurance agent had misspelled the nominee, as the papers did not mention Rakesh’s name. Rocky was in desperate need of money as Maya and his colleague Vivek let him know that they needed INR five lakhs to change the name on the nominee paper. He was helped by Priya, and soon it seemed like the matter was sorted.

Was Maya a scammer?

Maya, Vivek, and Rocky were caught by a police officer named Kranthi. He threatened them with jail time since he knew Rocky had committed fraud by changing the name of the nominee. It was against the law to change the name of the person who purchased the insurance. Rocky had committed fraud, and because of him, Maya and Vivek would be in trouble as well. Kranthi demanded 20 lakhs INR as a bribe to cover up the fraud. This would help the trio to avoid jail time, and Rocky agreed to get him the money in a week’s time. Rocky was in a dire state once again, and he was clueless on how to sort this matter.

When Rocky left, it was revealed that Maya, Vivek, and Kranthi were a group of con artists who’d been scamming people around the town. They would approach as insurance agents, stating the family member of the victim had a large sum as insurance money, and pull a stunt the same as they did with Rocky. They would keep extorting money with no intention of paying out the insurance money, since there wasn’t any. Maya, Vivek, and Kranthi hoped they would be able to get the money out of Rocky just like they’d scammed many in the past.

Was Rocky successful in capturing the insurance scammers?

Rama Rao came across the news of his death through an advertisement of itv published across newspapers. He came back to the garage and confronted his son. He assumed Rocky was again up to his usual mischief, as he thought him to be capable of anything. Rama Rao did not trust his son to do anything worthwhile, and this move was the last straw. Rocky revealed that after his father left, he put his plan in motion to help Priya. Priya’s brother had committed suicide after she learned that her brother was scammed by Maya, Vivek, and Kranthi the same way Rocky was being trapped. She shared this story with Rocky out of distress as she planned to file an FIR against these scammers in the hope the police would help them.

Priya wanted to take the legal route as she felt this was the only way to get them to serve prison time. A police officer who began to help Priya and Rocky also revealed that the trio were working very meticulously, and it was hard to track them since they were not leaving much trace. Rocky decided to lay the trap for the trio and get them arrested. The only way out was for them to seek Rocky. Rocky invented the whole scenario around his scuffle with Ranki and himself to make them believe that he was desperate to sort out his money matters. Ranki Reddy agreed to play along since he learned that both were from the same hometown. Rocky came across as a smart person who went out of his way to help the woman he liked. This kind of convoluted ending is a staple in Telugu films, and as a result, the end was fast-paced. The movie ended with Maya and Kranthi showing up at his garage asking for the money and pressuring him to arrange for it as soon as possible. While Rocky acted nonchalant, the two of them did not realize their scam had been exposed. Rocky had to be careful so that his trap was not exposed. The trio would disappear if they came to know of his plan.

Rocky asked them to meet him at a restaurant, where he would give them the money. The plan was to arrest them by keeping the trio engaged in the conversation. The end was a stretch as Maya heard Rocky’s father’s voice near the restaurant. This was odd since Maya had never met his father. This was the kind of plot hole the filmmakers simply forgot. After a long car chase, Rocky was able to get them arrested by stopping his vehicle in front of them. This was a rather anticlimactic end to the buildup the makers had executed. Rocky had to get his happy ending since he saved a woman who desperately wanted justice. There you have it, a typical damsel in distress being saved by the hero even though the female lead in the film is far more worldly and educated than the male lead. It was revealed that Maya, Vivek, and Kranthi’s real names were Chanti, Apsara, and Natraj.
