Spoilers Ahead

Why did Sitara want to get married?

Love, Sitara began with Sitara learning that she was pregnant. Just hours after learning this piece of news, she announced that she and her longtime boyfriend were planning to get married. At this point, she had not shared the news of her pregnancy with anyone, including her best friend, Anjali. Only Majeed, her childhood best friend and doctor, was aware of her condition. Sitara was reminded that she and Arjun had just gotten back together after some time off, and Anjali wondered if this was the right time to get married. Sitara was sure, and she chose her grandmother’s home to be the venue of her upcoming nuptials. Her mother Lata and father Govind were more than excited for the wedding. Sitara was close to Hema Chechi, her mother’s older sister. Hema Chechi used to be an air hostess who led a colorful life flying across the world, and claimed to have had many men fall for her beauty and confidence.

Did the first meeting between the families go well?

Arjun and his ex-military father landed in Kerala to meet Sitara’s parents; the friction between the father and son was palpable. His father had never approved of his only son becoming a chef and moving to Singapore for better career prospects. His father was a typical alpha male who wanted his son to take up a job that would highlight his masculinity. Despite their differences, the meeting between Sitara and Arjun’s families went well, and the date of their marriage was fixed.

Who was Hema Chechi having an affair with?

As the wedding preparations began, Sitara and her friend Anjali were going through old photographs. Sita came across one particular photograph of her father with Hema Chechi from the year 1991, which had a very risqué message written on the back. Sitara was quick to believe her father and Hema Chechi may have had an affair and continued it. The picture was taken the year she was born, and she wondered if the life she’d led amongst them was a lie. She decided to follow her aunt to an apartment at the far end of the town. Sitara asked Arjun to join her in her expedition to find out if Hema Chechi and her father were secretly meeting at an apartment. To her relief, she found out Hema Chechi was meeting Arvind, a pilot from the airline where she used to work, and they had been having an affair for decades. Sitara and her mother had met the wife of Arvind only hours ago while they were out shopping, and she felt bad for the woman, who was unaware of the affair.

How did Hema come to know about Arvind leaving her for good?

Hema and Arvind were in love, and the former hoped he would leave his family to be with her. Hema was always seen as someone who would never want to settle down, and all these years, she’d never felt the need to have a partner. However, the affair with Arvind changed everything for her, and she had hoped to settle down with him. Since Arvind was married, he was skeptical about such a big move, as he was perfectly okay with the current arrangement. Hema made it clear she wanted to get married, and Arvind promised her he would let his wife know of his plan to end their marriage during the upcoming vacation. Hema was with Lata and Sitara during their parlor run and ran into Arvind’s wife, who revealed they were moving to the UAE permanently.

Did Sitara cheat on Arjun?

During the same parlor run, Sitara fainted out of exhaustion. It was in the hospital that the doctor had to share that Sitara was pregnant, which shocked her family. Her parents and grandmother were not that broad-minded about the current situation, and they were vocal about it. Arjun came to meet Sitara after learning the news of her pregnancy and was excited. Sitara was upset and decided to let him know that she’d slept with another man when she and Arjun were broken up. Even after she’d reconciled with Arjun, she was not sure who the father of the baby was. Arjun was jolted to hear this news, and he was livid at the fact that she did not inform him she’d hooked up with another man. This was a betrayal of trust, which made him cancel their wedding.

Was Lata heartbroken over the affair revelation?

Sitara was distraught after Arjun decided to cancel the wedding. In a fit of anger, she revealed that Hema Chechi and her father had had an affair the year Sitara was born. She had the photograph as proof, which devastated her mother. Lata had a meltdown as she felt her sister was the overachiever, and she’d always grown up in the shadow of a sibling who was far more beautiful and intelligent than she was. Sleeping with her husband was a breach of trust, an act she wasn’t willing to forget. Lata was aware her sister had led a flamboyant life, but she never expected Hema would be the reason for the distress in the marriage. Hema tried to apologize but walked out when she learned Lata would not have it, which was understandable. Hema was now living in the apartment she and Arvind had purchased together. On confronting him about having to choose her or his family, she was quick to know he would never leave his family. Arvind blamed her for the breakup and walked away by giving her full ownership of the apartment. Arvind walking away devastated Hema, as she’d wanted to live the rest of her life with him.

What did the grandmother reveal about her life?

With everyone at the grandmother’s home, Govind had moved out to give Lata some space. Hema moved in back and gifted the money from the sale of the apartment to Sitara’s child as her way to repent for the mistake she’d made. The sisters did reconcile, but this was the first step towards healing their relationship. Sitara’s grandmother revealed that her husband many years ago had run away with his girlfriend. Since she had to raise two children and take care of the house, her grandmother always propagated the idea that love would weaken all of them. The matriarch was candid about her past and made her girls realize maybe she was wrong for forcing them to run their lives based on her ideals.

Did Sitara and Arjun get married?

Sitara was now living with her grandmother and had converted one of the rooms for the infant. She bonded with her mother and grandmother during her pregnancy. Sitara had spent most of her life building her career; her pregnancy allowed her to take a break and focus on herself and her family. Sitara had a conversation with her grandmother about wanting to keep the baby, as her doctor had informed her a long time back that her body was not equipped to carry a baby. The pregnancy was a miracle to her, which was why she chose to keep it. It also made her rethink the idea of approaching Arjun to reconcile with him.

Sitara and Arjun had been together for a while, and as stated by them, both had broken up and patched up several times in the past. She wanted to give their relationship another chance by apologizing to him. Arjun had moved to Singapore as per his plan, and a heavily pregnant Sitara made it there to offer her apologies. She conveyed that she wanted to continue living with him, and they could do DNA tests as well to find out who the father of the child was. Arjun was livid that Sitara had gotten everything wrong. He felt this was a breach of trust when she didn’t let him know about sleeping with another man when they were separated. Since the communication was not transparent, Sitara hid it, worrying Arjun would leave her. Arjun loved her and believed in having transparency in their relationship, but Sitara chose to get worried and hid a huge secret, anticipating the worst-case scenario.

Arjun was not worried about who the father of the child was, as long as he was raising him/her with Sitara. He probably wanted to be a better parent figure to the child than his father ever was. This was not revenge against his strict ex-army father, but a step towards making things right between himself and Sitara. Both reconciled because they could not live without each other. With a baby in the picture, Sitara and Arjun were confident they wanted to raise the kid together and not worry about the past anymore. Sitara also wanted to do things right this time and not follow the path of her father, who cheated on her mother when his daughter was born. Both Arjun and Sitara had flawed parents, and they wanted to break away from that pattern and carve their own journey.

Love, Sitara ended with Sitara and Arjun getting married a year later at her grandmother’s home, as planned before. Sitara and Arjun were strong enough to take the leap of faith and come together as partners. Lata, Sitara’s mother, refused to forgive her husband and asked him for some time to rethink her priorities. Lata was heartbroken and was hurt by two people she loved and respected. She could not go back to her life assuming things would be the same. Even though she forgave Hema, she did not forgive her husband Govind yet. At the ceremony, Sitara chose to recite a poem written by Lata when she was about to get married to Govind. Her longing for him was evident, which further made Govind sad about his mistake. This poem was recited to make him realize that he could have lost Lata for his one night of passion. The poem was a dedication from Sitara to her mother, and she had hoped to feel the same way for Arjun for the rest of her life. The last shot of the film was one of Sitara’s baby crying, indicating that their child had been born.

Sitara and Arjun getting married to each other after the birth of the child was them breaking away from the usual social norms. People either get married when the woman is pregnant or have a child after their nuptials. The breaking away from traditions was a good change of pace showcased throughout the film. Hopefully, Sitara and Arjun got their happily ever after.
