‘Kite Man’ Finale Recap And Ending Explained: Was Chuck Able To Remove The Anti-Life Equation?

During the monster chicken mayhem triggered by the Anti-Life Equation in the penultimate episode of Kite Man: Hell Yeah, a glimpse of the immeasurable power of the cosmic weapon was shown, and in the eventful first season finale, Chuck and Lisa have to wager everything they hold dear to keep it out of the hands of supervillains like Darkseid, Lex Luthor, and Helen Villigan. The first episode of the series raised the question of whether a nobody like Kite Man is competent enough to handle crises of such monumental proportions that even the Justice League would have a hard time dealing with. Well, the finale proves he apparently can—with the help of his supportive girlfriend Lisa and a crew of oddballs, that is.

Exorcising the Anti-Life Equation

Kite Man season finale picks up right from the ending of the previous episode. After putting an end to the chicken mayhem, Lisa and Chuck wonder about how to get rid of the briefcase containing the ALE when the duo stumble across Helen Villigan donning her exosuit, and her army of sentry robots round up the couple. Helen mentions that she isn’t willing to use the ALE for her selfish reasons, and gives Chuck his kite-gadget back, which Chuck had thrown away during his tenure as the toxic masculine superhero, Beast Mode. Helen takes Chuck and Lisa to her office and shows them from the simulations she had run regarding the aftereffects of the ALE that it seems that unleashing the cosmic mechanism will end the entire universe. For a supervillain corporate chief like her, that would be bad for business, so there is no way she is willing to let it fall in the hands of Darkseid or Lex either, knowing neither of them will adhere to reason and will inevitably try to use the ALE for their personal ambition. Helen reveals that only in one scenario is the universe’s survival guaranteed, one where Chuck uses the ALE. However, she isn’t aware of the technicalities involving the said situation and trusts Chuck with the briefcase to make whatever decision that he deems to be appropriate to put an end to the crisis.

Lisa, Chuck, and the rest of their Noonan’s Bar associates plan the best possible way to get rid of the ALE, and it is quite clear that it cannot be physically damaged, given how it previously survived a nuclear explosion. Chuck suddenly comes up with a plan inspired by The Exorcist, as he wonders if getting possessed by the ALE and dying thereafter will remove the equation from existence as well. Chuck’s advice is mistakenly interpreted by everyone to be an expression of his wish to make a heroic sacrifice to end the threat posed by ALE. Lisa is distraught while the rest of the crew hypes up Chuck for taking such a brave stance. Malice questions if an ALE-controlled Chuck would turn out to be unwilling to take his own life, and every member of the group offers their help in killing Chuck on his behalf if the situation demands it. The series is occasionally effortlessly funny. Lisa promptly puts an end to the Chuck-killing discussion; she isn’t willing to lose her boyfriend at any cost, even if the existence of the universe depends on it. Chuck somehow manages to convince her to assist in getting rid of the ALE and mentions that when the time comes, she will be the one to kill an ALE-controlled Chuck.

Did Chuck Rid of the Anti-Life Equation?

Meanwhile, Darkseid, who had supposedly tracked his goddaughter, Malice, by locating her demon cat, Chessure, through a GPS tag, finds the tag to be ineffective, and takes Brandon, the salesman who had sold it to him, into captivity for eternal punishment on Apokolips. Desaad had previously revealed to Darkseid that Malice had lied to him about the ALE not being in the possession of Lisa and Chuck, and this time, to assuage the situation, Malice herself arrives on Apokolips to acknowledge that fact to her godfather, and mentions that they are trying to exorcise the ALE out of existence. Knowing that plan might actually work, Darkseid asks Malice to reveal the location where Chuck and Lisa have taken it, but she refuses to do so, considering Darkseid will kill them to obtain the ALE, his most coveted mechanism. On the contrary, Darkseid promises to let Chuck and Lisa live. On the other hand, Goldilocks returns to the present time through the portal, but before leaving the 80s timeline, she reveals to Lisa’s mother, Rebecca, that Darkseid is scouring the world for the ALE, the strongest weapon to exist, which is currently with Chuck and Lisa. Rebecca, who was a selfish jerk of a mother to Lisa all her life, wonders about stealing the ALE.

Standing on the rooftop of Noonan’s bar, Chuck decides to unleash the ALE upon himself, but as it takes time to activate, Lex and the Legion of Doom, consisting of Solomon Grundy, Toyman, Livewire, Orm, Cheetah, and Black Manta, along with Lex’s henchmen, attack Lisa and Chuck. Their friends from Noonan’s bar come to the rescue, and a prolonged fight ensues. Chuck realizes that he had been reading the ALE from the opposite side, and quickly rectifies his mistake. Queen of Fables summons Evil Fairy Godmother from her fairytale book, who unleashes havoc upon Lex’s henchmen and Legion of Doom, promptly sending them scurrying away. Darkseid joins the party. Lisa gets angry at Malice for letting him learn about their location, but Malice reveals she did so to save Lisa and Chuck’s lives. Right at the same time, Chuck gets possessed by the ALE, which puts Lisa in moral jeopardy, as even though she isn’t willing to kill her boyfriend, she has to do so to protect the universe. The situation is almost like Avengers: Infinity War, where Scarlet Witch had to kill Vision to stop Thanos from getting his hands on the powerful Mind Stone. Anyway, Helen and her drones arrive at the scene to stop Darkseid, and Lisa barely manages to hold Darkseid when, all of a sudden, Rebecca appears and, taking the ALE briefcase, jumps inside Queen of Fables’ fairytale book.

A scuffle ensues among everyone to get hold of the book, when out of nowhere, Chuck’s former lackey, Gus, swoops in and takes the book, reveals his true identity as Martian Manhunter, and flies away. An infuriated Lex takes his leave while Darkseid sulks in Noonan’s bar, sipping on a Lee Trevino cocktail. Lisa is overjoyed to see Chuck alive, and later, she wonders whether her mother took the ALE and hid in the fairytale book out of love for her daughter. Chuck assures her that indeed Rebecca did so out of love, and the duo enjoy their victory soaring across the skies.

What To Expect In Season 2?

Lisa is mistaken to equate Rebecca’s hunger for power with her parental affection, as in the final moments of the first season, it is revealed that, using the ALE, Rebecca has taken command over the fairytale dimension, turning all the characters like Evil Godmother, Gingerbread Man, and every creature into zombified monstrosities. Taking charge of her new undead army, Rebecca aims to conquer the rest of the world outside, and the second season will feature her as the main antagonist. Lisa will have to work through her mommy issues to oppose Rebecca and her army, and searching for ALE, Darkseid and his fourth-world lackeys will square off with them as well.
