‘Incoming’ 2024 Cast And Character Guide

This new Netflix original film is a teen comedy, but it is a far cry from sugar, spice, and everything nice. There are also many characters that define the film and the kind of message it is trying to put across. Incoming is not for the faint of heart, but there is a lot to understand about characters from this film. The characters in it will help build the crescendo and the climax that everyone expected.

Spoilers Ahead

Benji

The movie is primarily about Benji, aka Benjamin Nielsen, portrayed by Mason Thames. His character is that of the good guy ready to do everything right to get the attention of his crush, Bailey, his sister’s best friend. The good thing about Benji is that he never listens to his friend’s outlandish ideas on how to woo Bailey. He makes up his own plans and makes sure Bailey does not see him do something stupid in the name of attracting her attention. Benji, unlike his friends, doesn’t get carried away by peer pressure. Even at the party thrown by his friend’s older brother, Benji wants to be the cool guy but still refuses to change his plans about getting close to Bailey. Even with many girls around him, Benji only had eyes for the girl he genuinely liked.

Eddie

Ramon Reed, as Eddie, Benji’s best friend, is a frustrated child who is not happy with his current living situation. He is not happy having his mother’s boyfriend, Dennis, around. At the same time, he is not able to open up about how he feels about Dennis living in his home and pretends to be the fatherly figure. Just like Connor, Benji, and Danah, he is looking forward to high school life, where he will be surrounded by older kids, hoping to get in their good books. Eddie is unperturbed when he is uninvited from Danah’s party and plans to spend the day indoors. It is Connor who forces him to be daring and take Dennis’ car out for a drive just to get back to him. Eddie, who is a nice boy as well, is not keen on breaking any rules, but hops on Connor’s bandwagon, and thus begins one of the weirdest nights of their lifetime.

Connor

Raphael Alejandro is Connor in Incoming. He is the most adventurous kid who wants only good for his friends. He is the one who asked Eddie to speak up against Dennis. Connor is the opposite of what Eddie and Benji are. He has a conscience, unlike their other friend, Danah, who seems to have no morals. Connor is the one who encourages Eddie to get out of the box and pull some daring stunts. He is the one who is also worried about his reputation as well in the school. Sadly, Connor is the one who gets targeted and is given a dirty nickname. Connor is the one who is upset about being unceremoniously uninvited from Danah’s brother’s party and wants to do something that would help them remember the night. As Connor suggests driving Dennis’ car around the neighborhood, one incident leads to another, and the evening ends up a memorable one.

Danah

Danah is portrayed by Bardia Seiri in Incoming. Danah is the most volatile teenager in the movie, who mistakes bullying and abuse for affection. He is constantly belittled by his older brother, Kayvon. Danah is raised by his brother, who portrays himself as the stud of high school. Danah only wants to emulate his older brother, as he assumes it is the only way to get the attention of women. He does not know any healthier way to approach women he likes, and presumes he is the coolest of the lot. His ideas of manipulating situations in his favor just to be able to meet women are what make him the immature kid of his whole friend group. Even though Eddie, Connor, and Benji call him out on his problematic behavior, Danah has no one older than him to stop him doing stupid things in the name of attracting the attention of the opposite sex.

Alyssa

Ali Gallo is fantastic as Alyssa, Benji’s self-obsessed older sister. She is not like Kayvon, who bullies his brother, as she has no time to think about others except for her best friend Bailey. Alyssa only talks about the new plastic surgery she had done on her nose, and complains about her ex-girlfriend Nicole. Alyssa plays the victim card, as Nicole left her and has a new girlfriend, but her attempts fall flat. Nicole refuses to internalize the problems pointed out by her ex and is too insecure to even admit she could be the reason why the breakup happened.

Bailey

Isabella Ferreira plays Bailey, Benji’s first love and Alyssa’s best friend. Unlike Alyssa, Bailey is far more grounded and, personality-wise, very different from her best friend. She is not a mean person, and also she does not come across as someone who likes the attention. Luckily, Alyssa is not jealous of Bailey or vice versa. Despite Alyssa having serious personality issues, Bailey chooses to stand by her best friend after her breakup with Nicole. Bailey is also kind to Benji, and she might know he has a crush on her and is waiting for him to make the right move. Unlike other mean characters in the show, Bailey comes across as decent, a perfect match for Benji.

Mr. Studebaker

Veteran actor Bobby Cannavale is the cool and suave chemistry teacher Mr. Studebaker. He is the most levelheaded and easy-to-approach teacher. He loves the attention he gets from the students and is ready to perform science-based tricks to amaze everyone at short notice. On the outside he seems to be sorted, while Mr. Studebaker appears to be suffering from anxiety and lacks the social skills to have adult friends, which is why he enjoys the company and the attention of the students. Things certainly got out of hand for Mr. Studebaker at Kayvon’s party, and his life has not been the same ever since.

Katrina

Loren Gray portrays  Katrina, the most popular girl in the school who also happens to be a social media influencer. Katrina, as described by Eddie, Connor, and Danah, comes from a very different social standing and does not engage with anyone outside of her group. However, things change on the night of the party, as Katrina got super drunk and was accidentally placed in Eddie’s car, driven by Connor, to be dropped home. On the way to drop her back, a drunk Katrina asks for food. This is the first time she is seen eating actual food. This indicates she is expected to remain thin for the sake of her followers and social media standing. Katrina could be suffering from an eating disorder as well as her situation only gets dirty from this point on. Katrina, on regaining her consciousness, only comes across as someone who wants to protect herself. Katrina is an example of a social media-obsessed generation that has countless body image issues and refuses to deal with them.
