Hot Frosty is the brand new holiday film on Netflix that is about the season of joy which cherishes family, friends, and everyone we love. Hot Frosty is about a stranger that walks into the lead female character’s life, and how she tries to accommodate the newcomer. The stranger suddenly becomes the talk of the town, and everyone very quickly becomes enamored by his presence. His presence also causes a stir while there are some trying to find out if the stranger has any ulterior motives.
Kathy
Lacey Chabert portrays the role of Kathy, who runs her own cafe in the fictional town of Hope Springs. It is the middle of winter, and Christmas is only a few days away. The town is celebrating the snowman competition ahead of the holiday season, and Kathy is looking forward to it. Kathy is also a widow who had started the cafe with her now deceased husband. She has been alone for a while, and her friend Mel, a store owner herself, wants her to find the right man. Mel and her husband Theo want what’s best for her, and in the spirit of that, she gives Kathy a scarf. Mel believes it brought her luck, and she wishes the same for Kathy as well.
Kathy is seeking love, but she is not aggressive about it, as she is still mourning the death of her husband. On the night of the snowman competition, she places the scarf on a snowman which is shaped like a human male. She later runs into a man who seems excited yet clueless about his surroundings. Kathy names him Jack, and as generous as she is, she offers him food at her cafe. She also offers him clothing and shelter by letting her stay at her home. As the days go by, they become friends, and there is a possibility the two might fall in love.
Jack
Dustin Milligan plays the role of Jack, a snowman-turned-human who has enhanced the whole town with his good nature and well-chiseled body. Jack came into existence when Kathy placed her scarf on his snowman form. Since the scarf might be kind of magical, or perhaps because placing it on him was an indication of Kathy being the one for him, he transforms into a human, and from that point on is excited to be a part of a community. Jack is excited and clueless. He remains an unnamed creature until Kathy shows up and sees Jack written on the clothes he is wearing and assumes that is his name.
Jack turns out to be of great help to Kathy, as he comes across as a handy person who is quick to learn how to carry out domestic chores. His helpful nature is also noticed by the townspeople, who hire him as a part of the maintenance team in the local school. However, the local cops are looking for someone like him, as there have been two incidents that startled the police officers. The breaking in of Theo and Mel’s store, and an elderly couple seeing a streaker at night. Kathy is quick to assume it was most likely Jack, and he is asked to lay low until the police give up on the matter, by which time Jack will be assimilated into society.
Theo and Mel
Theo and Mel are local store owners in the town of Hope Springs. They are also good friends of Kathy and run the store right next to her cafe. Theo and Mel are an elderly couple who have been in love and been married for many years. They are aware Kathy is going through tough times personally after losing her husband to cancer. As Christmas is approaching, they did not want Kathy to be alone, and gifted her a scarf that turned out to be lucky for Mel in the past. She claims to have worn it the night she met Theo, and the rest is history. Mel hopes the same scarf will turn out to be lucky for Kathy as well, as they want her to find the right partner.
Mel also turns out to be a generous person, just like Kathy, who does not file any complaint after her shop is broken into as she reveals nothing was stolen. Jack eventually confesses to what he did on the night he appeared, but the couple are quick to accept his apology and let him go in the spirit of Christmas. Their presence plays an important part in Kathy’s life, and it would be interesting to see if they come to learn their scarf did all the magic.
Sheriff Nate
Craig Robinson, popularly known as ‘the Pontiac Bandit’ or ‘Doug Judy’ from the hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is Sheriff Nate in this film. In Hot Frosty, he is the righteous cop who wants to catch anyone who, according to him, has violated any sort of law, be it big or small. Since Hope Springs is a small town where practically no crime takes place, he misses being able to carry out lengthy investigations of large crime rings and doing busts. Since an elderly couple complained of seeing a streaker at night, along with that Mel and Theo’s store being broken into, Nate takes this one-off incident seriously and wants to find the culprit. He feels there are two people who committed these two crimes. Since this case is under ‘investigation,’ he is yet to conclude that Jack accidentally caused these incidents. Many people try to convince Nate to drop the matter, but he feels he is close to catching the culprit.
Ed
Joe Lo Truglio, as an actor, is popularly known for playing Charles Boyle in the hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In this film, he is again playing the role of a local cop Ed, a subordinate to Sheriff Nate. Unlike Nate, Ed is not obsessed with finding the culprit. Ed is more immersed with the crowd and is willing to believe the two incidents are isolated ones. He also has a little crush on Kathy and is slightly heartbroken to find out Jack likes her. Ed is not the jealous type, and helps Jack by preparing him to ask Kathy out for a date. Ed comes across as a sympathetic person, unlike Sheriff Nate.
