The latest venture of Nickelodeon’s Dangerverse, Henry Danger: The Movie, sees the titular superhero back in action after four years since the end of the fan-favorite superhero TV series of the same name. Fans have been waiting with bated breath for the much-deserved silver screen entry of the former sidekick of Captain Man, and now that their wishes have been granted at last, it seems there are plans to bring the whole hero squad of Swellview back with a cinematic universe of their own. It must also feel much more reassuring to fans that Henry Danger movie exudes the same charm, positivity, and wholesome vibe the series was known for. Even with reality-shifting shenanigans in place to keep up with the recent trend of superhero media, the core of the narrative—which celebrates the simplistic morals and childlike wonder of superhero stories—remains intact. Also, it should be mentioned that viewers who aren’t familiar with the Dangerverse can easily enjoy the movie as well, given a brief recap of key events is provided in a prologue section.

Spoilers Ahead

Henry and Jasper: Protectors of Dystopia

The series finale of the TV show saw Henry Hart, aka Kid Danger, sidekick of Swellview’s superheroic protector, Captain Man, valiantly save the small township from a blimp accident and seemingly sacrifice himself in the process. However, in reality, Henry’s newfound superpowers had saved him, and faking his death, he decided to assume a new identity and begin the next phase of his life and superhero career in the city of Dystopia, along with his best friend and fellow superhero, Jasper.

At present, Henry’s sister, Piper Hart, and the genius inventor, Schwoz, arrive at Dystopia to meet up with Henry and Jasper. Piper and Schwoz used to be active members of Captain Man and his hero squad in Swellview, and Jasper is understandably glad to see them, but soon it seems everything is not okay between him and Henry. As it turns out, Henry has been swayed by the allure of fame, acting like more of a showboating corporate stooge and sidelining Jasper all the while. In short, Henry’s been acting like a glory-hogging insufferable jerk and is prepared to begin his solo act by breaking off his partnership with Jasper.

Why Did Missy Bring Henry to Newtown?

The beginning of the movie follows a teenager, Missy Martin, who is a massive fan of Kid Danger, stealing a RAD—Reality Altering Device—from Evil Science Corp to bring Henry back from the dead. Like the rest of the world, she too believes that Henry had died in the blimp accident, and now wants to bring him from the past to Newtown to fight crime together. Henry, who was fighting with the villain, Blackout, at the moment, gets the shock of his lifetime when he finds himself transported into Missy’s room—donning his classic Kid Danger costume. Henry is surprised to learn that not only had Missy learned his true identity, but she also knows about his associates—Jasper and Piper. Missy, on the other hand, is surprised to learn that Henry had faked his death and taken on a new crime fighting identity after moving to Dystopia. It should be mentioned that Missy is a talented artist and fanfiction writer, and her imaginative flair soon changes reality itself as Henry knows it.

While Missy continues pleading with Henry to look into Newtown’s increasing crime rate, Henry becomes desperate to return to his life in Dystopia. However, tampering with the reality-altering gizmo has resulted in troubling consequences, as the duo realizes that RAD has transported them to the world of Missy’s fanfictions. Which means characters created by Missy, like the villainous Coach Gregg, who incapacitates others using his whistle, have manifested in this reality. Also, Henry doesn’t have any powers in Missy’s fanfiction reality, as she was unaware that Henry had gained protective shield creation powers right before his blimp accident. Before Henry can return to his reality, he comes across Piper, or as she is known in this reality, the villainous Vampiper—as Missy had reimagined her as an electric vampire (a kid-friendly version of an actual vampire). Unbeknownst to Henry, Vampiper takes the Neo-Dynium crystal from the RAD, which results in the machine getting locked in story mode—which means Henry and Missy are stuck in this reality forever until they can obtain the crystal from Vampiper. Activating the RAD without the crystal results in the duo hopping through different realities randomly, all created by Missy’s imagination.

The Reality Hopping Adventures of Missy and Henry

As they get transported to another of Missy’s realities, where Jasper has powers and Henry operates as his sidekick, Henry finally realizes how Jasper must have felt lately, being under his shadow and treated with insignificance. In order to fix the machine, Henry tries to find Schwoz in this reality, which becomes a bit tricky given Missy didn’t know about Schwoz to begin with. Anyway, due to some spatio-temporal shenanigans, Schwoz appears to exist in this reality as well, as it appears the RAD fills the empty space of Emily’s fanfiction with elements drawn from reality. Henry manages to find Schwoz, who in this reality works as an ex-con turned plate scraper but still has a genius-level intellect. However, before Schwoz can help Henry and Missy, the social butterfly, Frankini, ends up activating the RAD, which sends Missy, Henry, and Frankini to a animated versions of their reality. Activating the device once again sends them to the reality where Vampiper exists, and falling prey to Vampiper, Frankini turns into an electric vampire as well. After learning about the RAD, Vampiper plans to haunt all of Missy’s fanfiction worlds, to dominate every reality by creating a vampire army.

As Vampiper tries to obtain the device, Missy and Henry transport themselves to another reality—which kind of seems to be inspired by “Sweet Tooth,” given how this post-apocalyptic world references the maple syrup war and the presence of a certain ‘Big Man.’ Henry teams up with this reality’s version of Jasper to fight the Mounties, which prompts Henry to finally acknowledge Jasper’s unwavering support. As the duo share a moment, Henry realizes he has been mistreating his friend in the real world, something he plans to rectify upon his return. In this post-apocalyptic reality, Schwoz turns out to be the Big Man, who shows up after Henry, Missy, and Jasper work together to defeat the Mounties. Schwoz is able to identify the root cause of the RAD’s problems and reveals the need to obtain the crystal—which Henry remembers to be in the possession of Vampiper. Henry plans to return to Vampiper’s reality with Missy, Jasper, and Schwoz, take the crystal back from her, and return to the real world—which can hopefully bring this reality-hopping trip to an end. However, as Missy points out, his plan entails a huge risk as well, as Vampiper, Frankini, and Coach Gregg will try to take the RAD from them, which could jeopardize the existence of not only the myriad of Missy’s fanfiction realities but the real world as well.

Was Henry Danger Able To Return To The Real World?

A prolonged fight ensues between Henry’s team and Vampiper’s lackeys, and in a crucial moment, Missy sacrifices herself to save Henry from Vampiper and ends up getting herself bitten. Obtaining the crystal just in time, Henry fixes the RAD and is able to return to the real world at the exact time when he was forced to leave it. His experiences in Missy’s realities have made Henry realize that he was straying too far from his roots. He decides to make an attempt to fix things by going to Jasper and accepts his mistakes. Henry hands Jasper the responsibility of protecting Dystopia, and the duo fight together to fend off Blackout. Recognizing the worth of a good friend, Henry recognizes Jasper’s contribution and leaves, as he has another important matter to attend to.

Henry goes to Newtown to meet up with Missy, as he has decided to fight crime by her side and stay in this small town—fulfilling the promise he made to his ardent fan. Life in the city was probably too distracting for Henry, which is why he prefers to stay grounded by shifting his base to Newtown. Henry brings Jasper and Schwoz to meet Missy in real life as well, and afterwards, Henry and Missy begin their crime fighting adventures.

Will Captain Man and Henry Team Up Once Again?

In Henry Danger movie’s ending, Henry and Missy are seen apprehending a crime scene where multiple drones are seen targeting someone, but even before the heroes arrive, the said person appears to have already taken care of the situation by blasting off all the drones. Henry recognizes the person to be his former mentor, the legendary Captain Man, who asks his former sidekick to join hands with him for an upcoming adventure. The ending implies a team-up movie with the two most famous heroes of the Dangerverse is already planned, and depending on the success of the film, the sequel can be greenlit in the near future.
