The second season of Gyeongseong Creature features a number of antagonists, all of whom are Najin-injected superpowered, ageless beings and have ties to Jeonseung Biotech. Lady Maede returns as the sadistic, psychotic big bad, while Seung-Jo leaves a mark with his unpredictable, menacing demeanor. While their motives behind Najin experimentation are much grander in scope and rooted in the intention of establishing their dominance over humanity, Captain Kuroko, chief of Maede’s enforcers, is involved in this gig for reasons personal to him. His allegiance to Maede is purely transactional in nature; as the season moves forward, his motivation is revealed, and in the end, due to a clash of interests, he ends up betraying Maede, which results in her death at the hands of Seung-Jo.Â
Spoilers Ahead
What Was Captain Kuroko’s Motive?
As the chief enforcer of Maede, Kuroko appears to be immensely irritated after a wayward Seung-Jo nearly puts the secrecy of the Najin experiments at risk by going on a murder spree. Responsibility for any mistake on the part of other enforcers automatically falls upon Kuroko, and knowing how disposable he is to the ones in power, Kuroko seeks to keep his position through any means necessary. He bears with chairman Shin Ji-oh’s insults and threats with the sole intention of completing his personal goal.
Kuroko isn’t really motivated by the secretive plan of achieving global dominance using Najin experiments, but it is imperative for him to play his part as he needs the research of Jeonseung Biotech, which involves organ transplants using Najin parasites. The penultimate episode of the season reveals Kuroko’s unnamed lover, a cello player, became paraplegic after suffering a fateful accident, and he has made it his priority to provide her with implants to help her return to her former life. In the secret Najin research wing of Jeonseung hospital, paraplegic captives are revealed to be used as lab rats, as a researcher reveals that after a significant period of bonding with a host, the parasite reaches maturity and is able to safely bond with other hosts as well, completely repairing the physical deficiencies of its host. This is when Jong-hyeok comes into the picture, as he was lured by the biotech conglomerate’s false promise of experimental treatment for his physical deformity and became a test subject of their implant research, being injected with Najin parasite. Kuroko had planned to extract the Najin maturing inside Jong-hyeok’s body to use on his lover. However, at the same time, he came across another opportunity to obtain a mature Najin when Seung-Jo came across Chae-ok, and as she was captured, it was revealed that her mother, Seishin’s Najin, had entered Chae-ok’s body decades ago. Indeed, Seishin’s Najin was able to revive Chae-ok even moments after her death—and is a much stronger alternative compared to Jong-hyeok’s parasite.
However, as Kuroko shares his willingness to experiment on Chae-ok to extract her Najin, Lady Maede proves to be the biggest impediment, as she has a score to settle with Chae-ok and forbids Kuroko from conducting any experiments upon her. Additionally, she brings Jong-hyeok to be used as bait for the Najin-anthrax monster in order to put Jang in a difficult place. As a result, Kuroko ultimately decides to betray Maede, and after confronting Jang, instead of taking him on in a battle, he directs him to Maede without any resistance. With Maede busy tackling Jang, Kuroko finds the perfect opportunity to extract Chae-ok’s Najin. At the end, even though Jang manages to save Chae-ok in time, she is reverted to her human self, with the Najin out of her system, which now belongs to Kuroko. All things said and done, Kuroko was successful in his personal mission and probably will be able to use the Najin to help his lover to recover her mobility.
Will Kuroko Continue To Help Seung-Jo In The Upcoming Season?
With his goal achieved, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for Kuroko to stay in Jeonseung Biotech. However, given the plan of initiating a Najin outbreak being hatched up by Seung-Jo and chairman Shin Ji-oh, it would be a better option for Kuroko to continue to serve their interests for his immunity. Najin-infected humans will become abundant if Seung-Jo’s plan works out, which will result in a crisis that can affect not only humans but the likes of other enhanced ones as well. Additionally, it remains to be seen whether Chae-ok’s Najin bonding with Kuroko’s lover results in troubling consequences. There is a chance that Kuroko’s lover will turn into a brain-eating monster and join his side; alternatively, the revelation of her transformed self can result in her feeling dejected, depending on how the makers decide to shape her moral compass. In any case, Kuroko’s lover will have a major role to play as the host of Seishin’s Najin, and there are multiple possibilities to explore with her character.
