‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ Series Recap And Ending Explained: Who Was The Tie-And-Die Killer?

You might have heard about the whole 11:11 theory, where people think that seeing 11:11 on the clock is some kind of sign that a higher power is guiding us. Some see it as a spiritual thing, but there’s also a scientific side to it. Time, as Einstein pointed out, is a bit of an illusion. The past is simply a collection of our memories, while the future is shaped by our current imagination and thoughts. So, really, what we have is just the present moment. This idea of time being fluid and interconnected is a big part of the thriller series Gyaarah Gyaarah, directed by Umesh Bisht, which you can catch on Zee5 Global.

Gyaarah Gyaarah follows Inspector Shaurya Anthwal, who was deeply invested in solving a series of crimes from the past which span across different years—1990, 1998, and 2001. Despite his best efforts, he struggles to crack the cases. Fast forward to 2016, and we meet another police officer, Yug Arya. These old cases are reopened, and Yug takes on the challenge of solving them. With the help of a walkie-talkie, Yug and Shaurya, despite being at different timelines, get connected and work together to piece together the clues and solve the crimes. Both of them have a common person in their lives: DSP Vamika Rawat, played by Kritika Kamra. She used to be Shaurya’s junior back in the day, and now, in the present timeline, is Yug’s senior. She becomes a crucial link between the two timelines. Gyaarah Gyaarah promises to explore how these characters connect, how they work through the mystery of the old cases, and what happens in the end; all will be revealed in this article.

Spoilers Ahead

Who murdered Aditi?

It was 7 PM on October 24, 2001, and a little girl named Aditi was enjoying a Dussehra fair. She was playing with a boy when, suddenly, someone abducted her right before his eyes. The boy was too young to do anything, but he did manage to tell the police that the abductor was a girl. Fast forward to November 3, 2001, and Aditi’s body was found at the Ganga Barrage in Dehradun. Inspector Shaurya Anthwal was on the case, and he realized that the kidnapper was a girl from the boy’s clue as he was the sole witness. But despite his efforts, the case was not solved. Fifteen years passed, and no one knew who the murderer was. In 2016, a new officer named Yug Arya came into the picture to reopen the case. Guess what? He was the same little boy from the Dussehra fair, and he was still troubled by Aditi’s unsolved murder. On top of that, the government had just passed a law saying that old cases like this one wouldn’t be pursued anymore. So, Yug and his team had just 24 hours to solve the case, or it would remain unsolved forever. Back then, while solving the case, another name came up: Raghav Nautiyal, a medical student. Raghav’s phone was used to make a call and demand a ransom of 5 lakh rupees.

But here’s the twist: back in 2001, Inspector Anthwal had already figured out that the kidnapper was a girl, not Raghav. Plus, Raghav had 10 lakh rupees in his bank account, so why would he need to ask for 5 lakh? But as Raghav went missing, no one believed Anthwal’s theory because the ransom call came from his phone and his disappearance was a bit suspicious, as if he went into hiding. So, in the present, Yug, under DSP Vamika Rawat’s guidance, was determined to solve the case, and that night while working in the police precinct, the lights went out. It was 11:11 PM, and a walkie-talkie buzzed. Yug picked up an old walkie-talkie and was surprised to connect with someone named Shaurya Anthwal from the past. Shaurya was at Panchachuli Textile Mills and had found Raghav Nautiyal’s body. Yug was naturally confused. He wondered who this man was and why he had suddenly called on such an old walkie-talkie. But he was still curious and went to that mill, finding that whoever called him, he was right! He discovered a skeleton in the mill, and it was actually Raghav’s skeleton.

The media had been told Raghav was the killer, but the toxicology report revealed something else. Raghav had been killed by a drug overdose, and the same drug had been used to kill Aditi. The substance was only found in hospitals, which meant the killer must have been a nurse or doctor. Yug made this information public, and it worked. The real killer was Ritu Bhat, Raghav’s girlfriend. When she realized her boyfriend was going to expose her for the murder of Aditi, she killed him. Now, when she realized she couldn’t hide anymore, she tried to pin the blame on her co-nurse, Kriti Rathaudi, to trick the police. But there was a crucial detail that gave her away. Ritu had a distinctive feature—polio in her legs, which made her wear special shoes. Yug remembered seeing those shoes when Aditi was abducted. With DNA evidence linking Ritu to both murders and her special shoes being connected to the scene of the crime, she was finally caught. Even though it was past midnight and she didn’t confess to Aditi’s murder, she was arrested with the help of Anthwal, Vamika, and Yug for the murder of Raghav Nautiyal.

Who Was The Tie-And-Die Killer?

The government finally recognized that there were many old, unsolved criminal cases and decided that the statute of limitations would not apply to these cases. That’s why a special team was formed, with Yug Arya and DSP Vamika Rawat leading the charge, along with two other members. Their first big case? To solve the case of the notorious “Tie-and-Die” killer. This murderer had a chilling method: he would tie up women and choke them to death. The case went cold in 1990, and guess what? Shaurya Anthwal, who we already know from earlier, had worked on this case too. From what they knew, it seemed like the killer had a personal grudge against women. After each murder, he would wipe their makeup. This case was 26 years old, and when Yug found out that Shaurya was involved, he wanted to get some clues from him to crack the case. So when it was 11:11 one night, Yug connected with Shaurya again. He told him that a woman named Saroj Pandey would be attacked by the Tie-and-Die killer on 9th Nov 1990 at Harbala Railway Station and asked if Shaurya could help prevent the murder and catch the killer. Even though it was seen that Saroj was already dead in the present, Shaurya took the chance and went to the station. Miraculously, Shaurya saved the woman. Even though reports showed she was dead earlier, it turned out she had survived thanks to Shaurya’s intervention. This was like magic! The past really changed, along with all the reports and news.

It was clear that Shaurya and Yug could work together to solve these crimes. But there was a twist—Shaurya had mistakenly apprehended someone named Ajit Chowdhury, who wasn’t the real killer. Ajit was attacked by police officers due to this mistake, and Shaurya ended up in jail. The next night, at 11:11 again, Yug called Shaurya and warned him about another murder that would take place at Debang Market. The victim? Palak, who was actually Shaurya’s girlfriend. What are the chances? It was her birthday, and they had plans to go watch a movie together. Shaurya managed to escape jail and rushed to the market to save her. Tragically, he arrived too late, and Palak was already dead. Yug and Shaurya couldn’t change the past this time, and the murderer was still out there. For 26 years, there were no more murders until the case was reopened. All the victims had one thing in common—they used to take the Kalki 543 bus. So, Yug and Vamika decided to track down the bus driver from back then, Brahmdutt. It turned out that Brahmdutt was still alive and had killed someone named Dilshan in the same way—tying her up and choking her—in 2016, 26 years later after the last murder.

But here’s the catch: the method was slightly different. In this case, the tying happened after the victim was already dead, whereas in other cases the killer tied the victims before choking them to death. This suggested that Brahmdutt might have killed Dilshan to keep her quiet about something she shouldn’t have known. They went to Dilshan’s house and discovered that she had hidden a hairpin from the last attack. Actually, When Birju killed Palak, Brahmdutt followed him to stop his son. Dilshan also tracked their movements and discovered Palak’s body. From that scene, she took the hairpin Palak had used to defend herself against Birju and kept it as evidence. This hairpin was significant because it was actually gifted to Palak by Shaurya. The hairpin had DNA evidence that pointed to Brahmdutt’s son, Birju. Birju had two cut marks on his neck from the hairpin, which confirmed he was the real Tie-and-Die killer. Here’s the backstory: Birju’s mother worked late, and Brahmdutt used to torture her. One night, Birju’s mother left their home, tying Birju up, and never came back. This trauma led Birju to develop a hatred for independent women, particularly those who wore makeup, which explained his pattern of killing. Yug and Vamika were able to deliver justice for Palak and help clear Shaurya’s name again this time.

What did Shamshera do to take revenge?

There was an old case from 1998 involving a gang war between two notorious gangsters, D.K. Sultania and Dharamveer Dabral. The conflict started when one of Sultaniya’s men was killed by a guy named Bablu Barud, who used to work for Dabral. To get revenge for Bablu, someone wiped out his entire gang. Everyone thought it was someone from Sultaniya’s crew who did the killing, maybe Shamshera, who used to work for Sultaniya before. Shamshera had promised Shaurya that he’d left his criminal life behind after serving his time in jail. He wanted to provide a decent future for his daughter, Garima. Shaurya believed him and wanted to find out who really killed Bablu Barud. In 2016, when the case was reopened, Yug Arya helped Shaurya. Yug suggested tracking down the tire marks from the car used in the attack. Using advanced investigative techniques that Yug taught Shaurya, he matched the tire marks to Shamshera’s car. This led them to believe Shamshera was indeed the killer. But Shamshera was not the murderer. It turned out his old gang members from Sultaniya’s crew were seeking revenge because they thought he was feeding information to the police.

Despite Shamshera’s protests and even Garima’s pleas that her father was innocent, Shaurya didn’t listen and went after Shamshera. Tragically, during the chase, a man from Sultania’s gang wanted to shoot Shamshera. Garima tried to protect her father but was killed instead. Shamshera was devastated. He kept insisting he was innocent, and even his daughter said so, but no one listened. He was sent to jail for 18 years, while his daughter’s death left him shattered. When Shamshera got out of prison in 2016, he was determined to get his revenge. He managed to abduct Sultaniya’s daughter from a rehab center. Yug and Vamika Rawat were on his trail, but something was not right. Yug knew Shamshera couldn’t be the killer because he was never a murderer, just a smuggler.

Looking into Shamshera’s past, Yug discovered that, while in jail, Shamshera had obsessively written Garima’s name on the cell wall and had mastered as an electrician. It became clear that Shamshera was plotting revenge, but not just against Sultaniya—he wanted to strike back at the justice system that failed him. Yug figured Shamshera’s revenge would likely take place where Garima was killed, at Garwal Fort. He shared this with Vamika, and they rushed there. They found that Shamshera had trapped Sultaniya’s daughter in a freezer van. But Shamshera’s real target was the police and the justice system that had wronged him. Yug realized the van might have been rigged with LPG gas, which could explode if the switch was turned on. Vamika went inside to rescue the girl, while Yug ran to stop her from activating the switch. Unfortunately, it was too late—the van exploded, causing a fire that took Vamika’s life. Her burned body was discovered in the van. Shamshera was arrested once again, but he felt a grim satisfaction knowing he had finally taken revenge on the system that he felt had failed him and punished one of the police officers involved in the case.

In the end, we see Yug using the walkie-talkie to connect with Shaurya Anthwal once again, this time to save Vamika, his senior. Yug has realized that, by working together, they might be able to manipulate time and change the past and the future. He hopes that if he can reach Shaurya in the past, Shaurya might warn Vamika and prevent the tragedy. But what happened to Shaurya is still a mystery. His van was found abandoned on the side of the highway on November 3, 2001, and he disappeared after that. The last clue Yug had from Shaurya was about Raghav’s dead body found in the mill, suggesting that Shaurya might have been killed by someone at the mill from where Shurya called Yug for the last time. So, what connects them all?

Vamika had a wristwatch in her possession that once belonged to Shaurya. Shaurya was her senior, and Vamika had feelings for him that she never expressed. Even though Shaurya’s body was never found, Vamika held onto hope that he might return again. The wristwatch might be more than just a keepsake—it could be a link between the past and the present. Perhaps Shaurya’s father, who was a scientist, designed this watch to manipulate time, which allowed these miracles to happen. This could explain how Yug and Shaurya from different times are able to work together. Will they manage to change the past, save Vamika, or figure out what really happened to Shaurya? If there’s a next season, we might discover if Shaurya was set up by corrupt officials who wanted to kill him. After all, they accused him of bribery and tried to frame him. It’s possible these higher-ups had him killed to hide their own dirty tricks and stop him from revealing their corruption.
