Family Pack on Netflix must be one of the weirdest fantasy fiction comedies out there. There are board games, mythical creatures, time travel, and a family that has no clue how to navigate through another timeline. There are only a few characters in the film primarily from the family itself who are trying to win the game. It is essential to win, and the family goes out of their way to do that.
Jerome
Veteran actor Franck Dubosc is Jerome, father of Louise and Clara and stepfather to Theo. Jerome comes across as someone who wants to spend some time with the family. He claims to be a fan of the board game “Werewolves,” something his father has forgotten about thanks to his dementia. After unsuccessfully convincing his family to play, all of them inadvertently fall into this 15th-century board game. It took a while for Jerome to conclude that all of them were in medieval times and will have to follow the rules of the board game to win and get out of it essentially.
Jerome of all the people, as a father figure, wants to help his family. Since this is medieval times, it is his duty to showcase his masculinity and protect his wife and kids. All the movie progresses; it becomes clear Jerome alone cannot win the game and get out of it; he will have to take help from his family.
Marie
Suzanne Clément is Marie in Family Pack, the mother figure who has been married to Jerome for a while. She was married before, just like Jerome, and has a son from her previous relationship. Jerome and Maria are happily married, but just like her children, she is not interested in playing Jerome’s board game “Werewolves.” When she learns of them being in the game, it is even more difficult for her to get around it as she is a woman living in the medieval times. As a lawyer, she keeps forgetting women were not treated right in that era and they had no rights as such. Marie tries to navigate through 15th-century France, often forgetting the societal norms then. Just like Jerome, she is trying to protect her family as well and wants to get out of the game by identifying the werewolves.
Clara
Lisa Do Couto Texeira, as Clara, Jerome’s daughter from his previous relationship, is the oldest kid in the group. She is a social media influencer who has a voice on the internet. The entire family is pulled into the game ‘Werewolves,’ and find themselves in a swim or sink scenario. Unlike others, Clara’s ethnicity becomes a problem because people of her community were shunned in 15th-century France. She is initially an invisible little girl who has no voice of her own. Clara can communicate with her father, Jerome, who in the game could read minds. Clara has a hard time adjusting to the new world of the board game they are in. Just like the mother and the father, she is also giving her best to help win the game.
Louise
Alizée Caugnies as Louise is a little girl, Jerome and Marie’s youngest daughter. She is a product of their love, and she is also transported into the game along with the family. As the board game begins, everyone is assigned a fixed role in the team to catch the werewolves. Louise’s role in the game is not initially revealed, which begins to bother the family, and they wonder if she is one of the werewolves they are supposed to kill in the game to get out of it. It turns out Louise is one of the werewolves who turns into the beast on hearing the wolf whistle in the night, and this terrifies the family. They cannot kill her for obvious reasons, and this is an obstacle placed in front of them. The only objective is to win the game and have Louise safely return to their reality.
Theo
Raphael Romand is Theo in Family Pack, Marie’s son from her previous relationship. Theo is the younger to Clara but both get along well, keeping in mind both come from two different families. As the family is pulled into the game, which is set in the 15th century, it is Theo who points out they could be time-traveling, as none of them could make sense of the sudden changes around them.
Theo has been assigned the role of the thief who not just steals objects but also identities, helping the family come close to the people who turn into werewolves on Sundowner. Theo attempts to help the family by taking up the identity of a local blacksmith and a prison guard to locate the identity of the werewolves.
Gilbert
Jean Reno, as Gilbert in Family Pack, is Jerome’s father and grandfather to all the kids currently in the family. Gilbert sadly suffers from dementia and tends to forget the name of Jerome’s current wife. Gilbert also tends to forget the names of grandchildren, but his dementia is a free ticket to get him out of any argument regarding this. Along with Jerome and Marie, Gilbert moves to 15th-century France because of the board game. Gilbert has a lot of strength to beat up people in the world he got transported to. He is assigned as the hunter in the board game, who can find animals for their supper.
Unlike others, Gilbert is having a good time, but he is also marred by his dementia as he begins to forget things. He is encouraged to write on a parchment paper to help him recollect whatever he could remember so that it is documented. Gilbert is also trying to locate the werewolves so that they all get to go back to their reality.
Piero
Bruno Gouery of “Emily in Paris” fame is in Family Pack as Piero. He is introduced halfway into the movie as an artist and Jerome’s neighbor, who is a closeted homosexual. Since Jerome and his family are from the future, as per the village rumors, Piero makes it a point to meet them. On the first meeting, he crushes on Jerome, who he sees as a considerate man from the future. The family is surprised to find out Piero is indeed an intelligent person who is fascinated by many things around him. According to him, he ran away from Florence to be able to live discreetly. Piero seemingly has given up on painting. His acquaintance and friendship with Jerome also get deeper as the movie progresses. Jerome is not sure how to work around Piero on learning the artist has a crush on him. Jerome does not dismiss the artist and accepts his friendship.
