‘Emily In Paris’ Season 4 Part 1 Recap: Was Camille Pregnant?

Emily in Paris has been a staple show on Netflix for years. It is a show about an American woman making it to one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. Maneuvering through European men as her dates, Emily finds herself in a mess when her engagement with Alfie fell apart by the end of the last season. Gabriel, her former love interest, was supposed to be getting married to Camille, but their engagement fell apart. Emily, however, found out Camille was in a relationship with a woman, and she was in a dilemma about whether to break the bad news to Gabriel about his fiancée, who had gone missing ever since the breakup.

What’s Happening In The Lives of The Lead Characters?

Alfie and Emily had broken up, as he believed she and Gabriel still harbored some feelings for each other. Camille had gone AWOL on her family and friends, and nobody could track her down. To Emily’s horror, all the news about her relationship was put on social media by an influencer, making it hard for her to be around Alfie or Gabriel. Alfie was working for her client’s company, and he was not sure how to be around her anymore. It seemed Alfie was far more upset over the breakup than Emily, who had gone fully into her work mode. 

Mindy was still with her boyfriend Nico, who was from an affluent and influential family, as his father ran the competitor marketing agency to Sylvie’s Agence Grateau. Mindy and her small band were looking forward to her representation at Eurovision, but she did not have enough money to pay for the gig, and she refused to ask Nico for any kind of financial help, as she wanted to do this on her own. Sylvie and her husband Laurent G. were now hoping to start a beach club together with Nico’s father, Louis de Leon. This would probably give Laurent a reason to stay back in Paris with Sylvie.

Did Julien join Nico’s agency?

Julien had been working with Sylvie’s Agence Grateau for a long while, and now it was time for him to move on to Nico and his father’s marketing agency, JVMA. Sylvie was not happy with the move, but Julien was aware he would have to eventually talk to her about his reasons for moving on. Julien was also good friends with Emily, who was Mindy’s best friend as well.

What did Mindy learn about her boyfriend’s father?

Mindy and Nico had a falling out over his father making a derogatory comment about Mindy and her choice of clothing at an event. There was a little friction between the two; however, they decided to make things work as Nico was trying hard to stand up to his father, who came across as a chauvinist. As both had patched up after a while, he offered her the tour of the brand closet, a place for all the designer clothes required for the agency related work, where she ran into several female employees. These female employees said no woman comes alone to the brand closet, fearing Louis de Léon, who used to force women from his workplace to change outfits in front of him. Mindy realized Nico’s father was a serial harasser and shared the disconcerting news with Emily. Since Emily knew her boss, Sylvie, used to work with Louis de Léon before she shared this news with her. Emily wondered if Sylvie knew of this behavior, but her boss refused to make any comment on it.

Where was Camille all this while?

Camille was Gabriel’s wife-to-be, and Emily felt guilty about their engagement breaking off the way it did. To make things right, she wanted to help Gabriel and Camille’s family look for the runaway bride. Emily somehow gathered courage to let Gabriel know of his fiancée’s infidelity with a woman. This essentially meant she’d cheated on him, and they were officially not together anymore. Emily took it upon herself to find Camille, who she initially assumed was with Sofia in Greece. On contacting Sofia, she learned Camille was not with her. Emily, however, eventually learned Camille was still in the country at the ‘House of the Monet.’ Camille and Emily patched up the misunderstanding that caused two major breakups in their lives. 

Camille agreed to come back to Paris and revealed she was pregnant with Gabriel’s child. Meanwhile, Sofia also landed up in Paris looking for Camille, and the two got back together. Gabriel and Camille were officially over, but they chose to remain good friends since she was going to be a mother to his child. He chose to help Camille by co-parenting their kid.

Was Emily’s client’s new perfume campaign a success?

Antione Lambart’s perfume campaign for his new product ‘Heartbreak’ was assigned to Emily. She came up with the plan to have a ‘Heartbreak’ launch masquerade party, which Alfie disagreed with. Alfie was still heartbroken over his breakup with Emily. She was trying to remain friends with him, but it was becoming harder as they were working in the same field. Alfie was working for Emily’s client and had concerns regarding the masquerade party for the product. The masquerade party did end up being a success, and Alfie was happy to be proven wrong, congratulating Emily for pulling off an event of this scale.

Who did Emily choose?

Emily and Gabriel had become friends after their separation from their respective partners. Since Gabriel and Camille were not together romantically anymore, he had begun to get closer to Emily as he wanted to spend some time with her. Alfie as well still enjoyed her company, and he began to wonder if he’d made a mistake by breaking up with her. On the night of the masquerade party, Emily was showered with attention by Alfie as well as Gabriel, who showed up at the party. Since Gabriel was more direct about his feelings for her, she agreed to commit to him. Alfie wanted to convey his feelings to her and remained in the hope she would say yes to him. Sadly, Alfie faced heartbreak once again as he witnessed Emily and Gabriel leaving the party together hand in hand.

Was Luc serious about his relationship with Marianne?

Luc was hooking up with Marianne, who claimed she was a Michelin Star inspector hired to review restaurants. Luc was slowly falling in love with her, and she was the demanding kind, which made him fall for her even more. Since Luc was close to Emily, the latter wanted to take Marianne’s help to get Gabriel’s restaurant one Michelin star so that his establishment could be on the radar of the city’s best places to eat. Gabriel was working hard, and Emily wanted to help him since both were a couple now. 

Was Sofia not happy with the situation in Paris?

Ever since Sofia had come to Paris and gotten back together, things were not working out the way she wanted. She felt Camille was making every decision based on her proximity to Gabriel. Camille was clear she wanted to live in Paris and would not consider moving to Athens with Sofia. Sofia was feeling left out in the decisions Camille was making, and how she never considered discussing with her partner about their future. Emily was also feeling uncomfortable having Camille and Sofia around all the time, as the couple were living with him. Emily and Gabriel hardly had time for each other, and they wanted some time just for themselves in their apartment. 

Camille moving to the apartment next to Gabriel’s was not helping Emily or Sofia, which Camille and Gabriel were unable to wrap their heads around. Sofia eventually got upset and broke up with Camille because the latter was not considering her feelings while making big life decisions. Camille and Sofia broke up, which left the former heartbroken all over again. 

Did Sylvie speak to the media about Louis de Léon’s misconduct?

Sylvie was aware of the fact that a news publication wanted to do a story on her former boss, Louis de Léon, Nico’s father. Many women from Nico’s agency had spoken to the news publication about the harassment they had faced at his hands for many years. The news publication believed Sylvie’s statement would add more credibility to their report. Sylvie had to consider her husband Laurent as well, who was going into business with Louis as a partner. Sylvie, however, did what she thought was right, which was to finally disclose her horrifying experience working with Louis. This was a difficult step, but she had to take the leap of faith. Thankfully Laurent was on her side as the news broke out, though both knew things might not go their way. 

How was Marianne’s bluff caught?

Sylvie wanted to have a quiet dinner with her husband for his birthday and asked Luc to get Marianne’s help getting in some reservations. Marianne, who was the controlling one in the relationship, asked Luc to use this opportunity to ask her for a raise and possibly a promotion. Marianne and Luc forced themselves onto Sylvie and Laurent, which made the couple very uncomfortable. Luc did not stop himself from asking about the pay raise and promotion. Sylvie was livid at him for ruining their dinner. The night got worse when one of the men came up to their table and announced Marianne was a fraud. She used to be a Michelin-starred inspector but was fired from her job a year ago. Luc could not stay mad at her for long, as she left the table embarrassed of herself. 

Why did Gabriel not get the Michelin Star?

Luc had to reveal the awful truth about Marianne to Emily. Emily was shocked, and she did not know how to convey the news to Gabriel, who was working hard to earn the Michelin star. Emily gathered all the courage and conveyed the news to him about Marianne being a fraud. To her surprise, Gabriel was happy because the weight of chasing perfection was just lifted off his chest. He wanted to just be a good chef and serve delicious food to the patrons that frequented his place. To celebrate this, he throws an ‘I did not win the Michelin Star’ party for himself and staff at his restaurant. Gabriel only wanted to do what he knew best, which was to cook for and serve them. He wanted to gain success in that field, and hopefully this would be a start towards him being a good cook for the sake of it instead of chasing glory.

Did Camille reveal she was not pregnant? 

Camille approached a doctor after having gone through two major breakups. Her marriage with Gabriel was called off, which led to their eventual breakup. Her breakup with Sofia also made her miserable. Since she was pregnant, she wanted to approach her doctor so that she could keep herself sane for the next few months till the baby arrived. 

Camille was upset because of the back-to-back heartbreaks she had gone through. All of them ended suddenly, and she never got time to process the pain and the event itself. She jumped into a relationship with Sofia right after her marriage was called off. Sofia was also not ready to be with a pregnant Camille because she was making all the major decisions based on how she wanted her life to be, which kept Sofia out of the equation. However, the doctor’s test came out negative, and she was stunned to learn that she was not pregnant at all. Her periods hadn’t shown up because of the stress pre-wedding. In the matter of a few weeks, Camille had lost everyone she loved and held dear. Her ex-boyfriend was with Emily, and since she was vulnerable, Camille did not want to lose the friend she had found in him by revealing she was not pregnant with his child.

Part one of season four ended with Camille not revealing she was not pregnant to Gabriel. She reached his restaurant to see him throwing an ‘I did not win the Michelin Star’ party. Camille was alone and desperate, which made her stay tight-lipped about her current situation. She may try to win Gabriel back into her life by causing trouble between him and Emily. Camille would want to get married and settle down since she was the reason why everything fell apart. She would try to fix things to make things right.
