Spoilers Ahead
Ichica
Ichica, played by Ai Mikami, is one of the girls in the prestigious Asuran Academy who comes from a poor household, and that alone sets her apart in a school full of wealthy students. But what really makes Ichica stand out is how she deals with hurdles on her path. Ichica’s father left her and her mother with a huge debt before he disappeared, because of which Ichica and her mother had to fend for themselves. Ichica’s mother had to take on multiple jobs just to cover the basic expenses. Knowing that her education at Asuran Academy was her only shot at a better future, Ichica couldn’t afford to fail. But with the debt collectors hounding them and the pressure of keeping up with the rich kids at school, Ichica was in a really tight spot. That’s when she took on the role of the “Love Keeper.”
At first, it was all about survival—Ichica needed the money to help pay off her father’s debts and cover her school fees. So, Ichica started to blackmail other students who were in secret relationships, and threatened to expose them in light of the school’s strict no-romance policy unless they paid her. It wasn’t something she was proud of, but in her mind, it was a way to survive for herself and her mother. But Ichica wasn’t just a cold-hearted extortionist. Deep down, she was conflicted. She had a best friend, Ema, who was also struggling. Ema had dreams just as big as Ichica’s, and when she got expelled from school for being in a relationship, it hit Ichica hard. She realized that the school’s no-romance rule wasn’t just harsh—it was ruining lives. That’s when her perspective began to shift. She didn’t want to be a part of the system that hurt people like Ema. Instead, she wanted to stand up against it. Then there’s her relationship with Ryogo. It’s complicated, to say the least. Initially, Ryogo was just another target—someone she could blackmail for money. But as they spent more time together, she started to see him differently.
As Ryogo and Ichica got to know each other, their connection grew, and before she knew it, Ichica started to develop feelings for him. It wasn’t part of the plan, but it happened. And it made everything even more complicated, which made her get into a romantic relationship with him because she could not help but fall for him. So the news of her relationship got leaked, and she and Ryogo got expelled. But this time, Ichica decided to take a stand. She realized that she couldn’t keep doing what she was doing—extorting people and helping the school enforce its cruel rules. Instead, she wanted to do something good, something that would make a difference. She wanted to stand up for students like Ema, who were punished for simply falling in love.
You see, Ichica is not an ideal person. She is flawed and makes mistakes, but her heart is in the right place. And that’s what got her accepted back into the school. Her efforts not only brought her back but also allowed many students who had been expelled to return, even though the no-romance rule was still in effect. We hope that she continues to fight like this in the future and achieves her dream: to create a school where even the poor can attend, and to build a better future for herself and her mother.
Ryogo
Ryogo Maki, played by Ryubi Miyase, wasn’t just some rich kid who lived a carefree life. He was trapped in his own way, dealing with an abusive father and a deeply dysfunctional family. Despite the wealth and status that came with his last name, Ryogo desperately needed his own money to break free from that toxic environment and pursue his dream of studying abroad. Ryogo was a bit of a flirt, and at first, he didn’t mind getting caught. In fact, he wanted to get expelled as a way to escape his father’s oppressive control, to be honest. But Ryogo wasn’t like his perverted older brother, Haruto. Unlike Haruto, who manipulated his partners, Ryogo had a strong sense of right and wrong. He proved this when he helped his classmate Ayami by revealing the truth about Haruto and protected her from his brother’s harmful intentions. Despite his initial intentions, Ryogo wasn’t heartless. When he realized he was hurting Ichica, the girl he had teamed up with in the “Love Keeper” business to earn money, he confessed that he was also in love with her. Their relationship evolved from being business partners to them forming a genuine romantic connection. In the end, Ryogo stood by Ichica when they decided to challenge the school’s no-romance rule, which showed that he was willing to fight for what was right, even if it meant going against the strict rules. Finally, Ryogo managed to achieve his goal—he got away from his abusive father and left for abroad to pursue his studies.
Atsushi
Atsushi Kanda, played by Rintaro Mizusawa, was Ichica’s childhood friend who had always been there for her since they were little. From a young age, Atsushi had deep feelings for her. Even though his mother and Ichica’s father had had a secret affair, which led to some awkwardness and the eventual strain on their friendship, Atsushi never stopped caring about Ichica. When they reconnected later in life and became partners in the “Love Keeper” business, he was genuinely happy to have her back in his life. However, during that time, Atsushi had a bit of an obsession. He would secretly follow Ichica and take pictures of her. His feelings for her were strong, but he wasn’t thrilled about the fact that she liked Ryogo. In fact, he felt quite jealous. When Ayami leaked the photos of Ichica and Ryogo, which led to their expulsion, Atsushi was somewhat happy. Part of him wanted them to be exposed, especially since he was struggling with his jealousy. Even though he was supposed to be Ichica’s friend, it seemed like he might have been behind some of the threats she received at the end. It’s likely he’s going to be the new “Love Killer”. Atsushi’s jealousy and unresolved feelings made him act in ways that hurt Ichica, and Ichica did not even know about it.
Sawa and Yuzuki
Sawa Fujino and Yuzuki Sakurai, played by Shiori Akita and Airi Aoki respectively, were a couple—at least, that’s how Sawa saw it. Sawa was deeply in love with Yuzuki, but she was also incredibly insecure and jealous. Whenever she saw Yuzuki with someone else, laughing or being affectionate, it drove her crazy. This jealousy made her act out to create a lot of tension and drama. Eventually, Yuzuki stopped hanging out with Sawa because of the constant scenes and negativity. This hurt Sawa, and it changed her. She thought that if she couldn’t have Yuzuki’s love, then no one else should. This toxic thinking made her become one of the rabbit hunters—a group of students who were determined to expose and sabotage any romantic relationships in the school. Sawa’s jealousy pushed her to become a tattletale who revealed secrets and caused trouble for couples. However, in the end, Sawa came to understand that her actions were wrong and decided to support the end of the no-romance policy. It was a big step for her, acknowledging her mistakes and trying to make things right.
Yuma and Ruka
Yuma Nashinoki and Ruka Ichinose, played by Shoki Nakayama and Kyoya Honda respectively, were the first openly gay couple at the school, and their story went viral. Yuma, who had tried to keep his true self hidden by flirting with girls, was eventually exposed. He felt a deep sense of shame when he was expelled. Both Yuma and Ruka tried to keep their relationship a secret by paying off the Love Keepers, but their efforts weren’t enough. it was clear how much Yuma was struggling with the situation. Ruka, being a supportive partner, understood that Yuma’s reluctance to be open about their relationship didn’t intend to hide their love, but just needed time to deal with everything. Ruka didn’t take offense; instead, he recognized that everyone needs their space sometimes.
Ema
Ema Komori, played by Ichika Osaki, was Ichica’s best friend. Ema was beautiful, smart, and had big dreams of achieving something great with her life. Unfortunately, Ema’s “mistake” of sleeping with her boyfriend before breaking up with him led to her being exposed and eventually expelled from school. It turned out that Ema became pregnant and had to leave town to escape the shame and hide her secret. Seeing what happened to Ema deeply affected Ichica. It made her determined to stand up for herself and challenge the unfair rules. So, Ichica indirectly supported their mission to break the no-romance rules as she didn’t anyone else to suffer the same fate.
Ayami, Shinoda, Haruto
Ayami Ogata, played by Rino Wauchi, and Yuki Shinoda, played by Moeka Hoshi, were both romantically involved with Haruto Mai, portrayed by Kodai Asaka. Haruto was a real piece of work. He was a pervert who hid his relationships and made fake promises to Ayami that he would be with her while he was actually engaged to another teacher, Miss Shinoda. It was pretty clear he was only playing with people’s feelings. Luckily, Ryogo exposed Haruto’s dirty secrets. This revelation led both Ayami and Yuki to break up with him. Ayami saw Ryogo’s kindness and fell for him, and initially exposed Ichica and Ryogo’s relationship out of jealousy. However, she later regretted her decision and tried to make things right. To save herself and challenge the strict no-romance rules, Ayami threatened to reveal her affair with Haruto to tarnish the school’s reputation. Meanwhile, Miss Shinoda took action by exposing Haruto’s affair with students to Haruto’s father, Akira Maki, played by Ken Ishiguro. Akira had always been proud of his elder son Haruto and blamed Ryogo for his rebelliousness. But when he learned about Haruto’s behavior, his anger shifted from Ryogo to Haruto, who brought shame to their prestigious family.
Yoko Ikushima
Yoko Ikushima, the principal of Asuran Academy, was the very person behind the strict no-romance rules at the school. She seemed like a creep and a harsh dictator, which she kind of was. But there was a deeper reason behind her stern rule as it came from a place of deep pain and concern. As a child, Yoko lost her best friend, who got pregnant and tried to keep it a secret. Tragically, her friend died while trying to give birth on her own. This loss left a huge impact on Yoko, and she felt immense guilt and sorrow to this day. She didn’t want any other students to go through the same kind of suffering and end up in a similar situation. So, while Yoko’s no-romance rules seemed harsh, they came from a genuine desire to protect the students. She was determined to prevent anyone from facing the kind of tragedy her friend did. Even though the students might have hated her for it, Yoko believed that one day they would understand that her intentions were ultimately for their safety and well-being.
