The final season of Bosch: Legacy continues its remarkable streak with the seventh and eighth episodes as well, as the investigation gets more complicated and exciting— setting the stage for an action-packed final couple of episodes. Previously, following Detective Robertson’s murder, the prime suspect, a taco truck robber named Diego Perra, was arrested, but what seemed to be an open and shut case turned out to be a misdirect, as Bosch was able to deduce that Perra was set up. The entire Gallagher family was found murdered as Bosch was able to find their remains buried; the culprit, Finbar McShane, escaped, and looking at his background, Bosch and Mo learned about a buried federal investigation involving McShane. Maddie and Vasquez’s serial robbery case became more intriguing all of a sudden after Reina Vasquez learned that her nephew, Albert, is one of the three robbers involved. With Mo Bassi’s help, Chandler began her own investigation into Councilman Patrick Curry after finding out he might have caused the death of his former fling Shawn Williams by forcibly overdosing him. So far, the Gallagher family investigation had the central case status, but in the recent couple of episodes, Robertson’s murder mystery takes the spotlight as the Mexican cartel’s involvement in the detective’s murder comes to light.

The Search for McShane Continues

Bosch considered it challenging, even for someone like Mo, to gather intel about a sealed-off federal investigation—but Mo had assured him that he had a way to get around the situation. As expected, Mo contacts Jade, the hacker/FBI agent whom fans will recognize from her shenanigans in the second season of Bosch: Legacy, when she entered a relationship with Mo only to get him in the feds’ vice grip to force him to give up his friends, Bosch and Chandler. However, Jade fell in love with Mo for real, and betraying him left her wracked with guilt. Mo got back at Jade by threatening to rat her out in the hacker community and jeopardize her career, but backed off at the end, and needless to say, things ended in a rough spot between them.

At present, initially Jade isn’t willing to cooperate with Mo about getting him any intel, but eventually changes her mind and fetches the sealed-off federal investigation file on Finbar McShane. As Jade informs us, McShane had an accomplice, an intelligence agent named William Jurgens, who arranged his way out. Bosch considers the possibility that Jurgens has once again helped his old ally lay low, which is why he meets up with his army buddy, Gurbizs, who can help him with the situation.

Chandler Meets With the Councilman

Chandler had assigned Mo to learn about Councilman Patrick Curry’s very active social life to find substantial clues about his involvement with Shawn’s death. Mo has been questioning the clubs Patrick is seen visiting frequently, and obviously word gets out to the councilman, although it isn’t certain whether he knows that the present DA has launched an investigation into him. Anyway, he decides to meet at Chandler’s office, and the sweet-talking crook slyly advises her that she should work hand in hand with the city council and police—which kind of indicates he already knows about the investigation? However, with only two episodes to go, this storyline will be rushed for sure; hopefully, at the end, Shawn gets his justice.

Did Vasquez Apprehend Her Nephew?

Maddie and Reina’s investigation received momentum with the shocking revelation of Reina’s personal connection with the case, and in the recent episodes, even though the investigation comes to an end, Reina will face family troubles in the aftermath. Initially, Reina tries to settle the situation by directly approaching her nephew, Albert, questioning him about his association with Nestor and Victoria while advising him to come clean and confess before it’s too late. Albert continues to deny everything, and a desperate Reina makes a foul attempt to derail the investigation by stealing a record of Albert’s call from Nestor’s call directory. Vasquez also learns that Albert frequently visited his great-grandfather at the old age home with Victoria and stashed the stolen goods at the place.

Maddie, who tails Nestor on her own and manages to learn that Albert is the third member of the robbery crew, is surprised to learn about his family ties. Which also makes it clear to her that Vasquez has deliberately tried to sabotage evidence by stealing call records. In a moral dilemma—whether to support her dear friend or to be faithful to her duty as an enforcer of the law—Maddie goes to her father for some much-needed counsel. Bosch’s advice helps her to finally gather the courage to directly approach Reina and confront her about the situation regarding Albert. Acknowledging that her family ties left her blinded, Vasquez decides to cooperate in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Victoria learns about Albert’s connection with Reina after visiting his place and decides to bail on her crew by taking off with the stash of stolen goods. Vasquez helps the LAPD set a trap to draw Albert to visit his great-grandfather, but as he doesn’t take the bait, Vasquez checks up on her abuelo’s room and finds out that Victoria, now aware of the family connection, has escaped with the stolen items. Hilariously enough, Victoria decides to set up a meeting to deal with the same guy whom Albert and Nestor approach later, and upon learning that Victoria has betrayed them, they set up a meeting to confront her. Reina and Maddie visit Victoria’s concerned parents, who provide them with her communication details, which allow the cops to track her down to the location where the deal takes place. As Albert and Nestor confront her about betrayal, Victoria reveals Albert’s family ties to Nestor, prompting him to believe that Albert has set them up after the arrival of a police chopper nearby. A confused, desperate Nestor tries to flee with the money with a gun in his hand, only to get shot to death by the cops waiting outside after raising his weapon towards them. Albert and Victoria make a last-ditch attempt to flee, only to be apprehended by Maddie and Reina, and in a sense of poetic justice, it is Reina who arrests her nephew. However, things will become even more troubling for Reina, as she will have to face her sister/Albert’s mother, Mari, who had no idea about the shady business her son had gotten himself involved with.

Will Bosch Take On the Cartel To Capture Robertson’s Killer?

Bosch visits Shaz, the bartender and the late Detective Robertson’s grieving lover, who reveals she hasn’t been able to get rid of his stuff just yet. From Robertson’s coat, Bosch finds a parking ticket for the DEA garage and details of a meetup at the taco place where he was murdered. Taking this as an indication that Robertson might have been working on a narcotics case that got him set up and murdered, Bosch meets up with his contact at the DEA. Bosch decides to take the help of Robertson’s partner, Detective Lopez, to look into his recent investigation involving the DEA, and the duo finds out that Robertson was looking into the murder of a migrant worker who might have been involved with drug deals, as mention of Black Ice and fentanyl is made in Robertson’s research. Following the trail of hints, Bosch and Lopez reach Lancaster, where the migrant worker operated as a laborer in a certain United Chemicals factory. On the other hand, the DNA found on the bullet shot at Robertson doesn’t match with Diego Perra and instead matches with the slain migrant worker whom Robertson was investigating. Knowing Perra was set up for sure, Chandler arranges for an interrogation with him and learns about the involvement of the Mexican cartel—under whose orders he used to rob taco places around LA. In reality, Umberto Sorea, aka ‘The Pope,’ a dreaded enforcer of the Mexican El Fuerto cartel, brings migrant workers to this side of the border to create Black Ice and other related addictive substances in the United Chemicals factory, and Robertson got too close to the truth, which got him and the escaped migrant worker killed. Pope is revealed to be well connected with the LA County Sheriff, whom Bosch and Lopez had approached to seek assistance in the investigation, and the sheriff calls LAPD 00p0to inform him of Lopez’s presence, which creates a situation for the young detective as he gets confronted by Chief Hughes.

Chandler finds conclusive evidence that Pope was responsible for Robertson’s murder by matching witness statements with his physical attributes—a tattoo, to be precise. Bosch sneaks into the motel in Lancaster with Mo, where the migrant worker had been cooped up, and finds drugs inside his mattress. Bosch, knowing that the crooked county sheriff is connected with Umberto, calls him to inform him about his finding, which results in Umberto visiting the motel soon enough. Bosch has set up an ambush with the expectation that the cartel sicario will fall right into it, but Umberto doesn’t take the bait. Figuring out that Bosch might be waiting for him, Pope decides to back away and escape as the eighth episode comes to an end.

The ending indicates Bosch will have to take on the might of the cartel, and as hinted by the third season trailer, he possibly has to travel to the other side of the border to finally bring Umberto to justice. Also, the McShane situation needs to be taken care of, and with only two episodes to go, it kind of feels like the ending of the series might become a bit haphazard.
