Did anyone in the family like Carlton and Will’s startup ideas?
Ever since their plan to set up a business had been made public, Will and his cousin Carlton had come up with more than a dozen ideas for a start-up, but none of the family members approved of them. Most of their ideas were either obsolete, already existed, or there was no market for them. Both young men were exhausted with it, and they had nothing to show Quentin.
What did Philip suggest the boys do?
Uncle Philip asked them to pick up longer shifts at the club and become financially independent instead of wasting time coming up with ideas. Uncle Philip wanted them to keep themselves busy instead of wasting time at home in the hope they would have a eureka moment someday. Will was not reluctant because he was already working in the club. It was Carlton who had a hard time taking up the job as he was afraid of the questions that would be thrown at him since he was out of his rehab stint. An uninterested Carlton took up the job anyway.
Did Quentin give Carlton and Will a deadline?
Quentin was aware Will and Carlton were up to something, and hence he had given them enough time to come up with a viable business pitch. The boys had made a promise a while back, but so far they had not been able to come up with any idea that would kick start their plan to be entrepreneurs. A frustrated Quentin came up to them and gave them a deadline of 48 hours to come up with a pitch and name for a business to keep him interested in their dream plan. Since both were busy working at the club, which almost felt like a full-time job, they were having a hard time meeting and discussing business ideas.
Who helped Vivian with the party for Philip’s law firm launch?
Vivian, who now had a full-time job as a director of the art program, had taken charge of arranging a caterer for the launch party of Philip’s new law firm. Her new assistant Cruz got her in touch with Shareef, a chef who ran a pop up food stall that served traditional African American meals in her budget. Shareef turned out to be a good-looking man as well, who began to flirt with Vivian.
Was Jazz having financial trouble?
Jazz was in financial trouble as he was given a notice regarding the non payment of tax. The letter was read by Ashley and Harry, who had visited his store to buy the latest records. Hillary and he were still not on good terms, and this tax-related matter made her wonder if her ex-boyfriend was in need of money. Jazz had also mentioned to Will about his financial constraints. Will took him to his uncle’s law firm launch party in the hope of getting him in touch with several connections that could help him with the crisis he was in.
What does Carlton do to meet Amira?
After the debacle at the Juneteenth party, he tried to text Amira, but she never responded. To meet her and try to explain the situation from his perspective, he crashed into a rehab related to a church group that she was frequenting. Amira was shocked to find him in the group. It was not that difficult to conclude he had stalked her. Amira was clear about wanting some distance from him and creating boundaries. She admonished him in front of the group, which left him embarrassed.
Was Erica feeling guilty?
Erica was Philip’s ex-girlfriend from college. She was back in Philip and Vivian’s lives, which the latter was a little concerned about. Philip and Erica had briefly kissed, and he had asked her to keep it to herself to not add to Vivian’s worries. Even though Philip was okay with pretending the kiss had not happened, Erica was not comfortable. At Philip’s law firm launch party, Erica was uncomfortable around Vivian, and she did notice that. Vivian questioned Philip about the same, to which he responded with a vague answer to let it slide without causing a conflict between him and his wife.
Was Jazz still angry at Hillary?
Jazz was still angry at Hillary and wondered if she had spoken to her father to converse with him about loaning some money to sustain his record store. There was some anger, resentment, and tension between the two. They were bickering because both, not having properly moved on from each other, continued bumping into each other. As they began to bicker about running into each other, Jazz and Hillary within seconds began to kiss each other, indicating they both still shared some feelings for each other.
Who was Geoffrey’s son?
Geoffrey’s son Frederick was brought back from London, and the father was proud to introduce him to everyone at the launch party, including Carlton and Will. Geoffrey initially came across as a decent young boy, but Will overheard him talking too aggressively about Geoffrey about him not being aware of his ploy. Will did not see this as a good sign, and he was not sure how to convey what he heard to Philip or Geoffrey.
What was the start-up idea Carlton and Will came up with?
Will and Carlton were having a hard time talking to successful businessmen at the launch party, who were only offering catch phrases but nothing substantial that would give them a solid idea to work on. Will and Carlton were smart enough to understand the businessmen who were at the party were only there to give advice and were not interested in entertaining two young boys who wanted to make it in the big bad world of entrepreneurship. After listening to countless people, they came up with the idea of developing merchandise based on their life experiences so far. The profit from the merchandise would help them develop books and podcasts to discuss their life story. Carlton would discuss his rehab stint and other mental health issues.
Will would talk about his underdog story, going from a young boy from West Philadelphia to someone who has been given opportunities to work on his skills. Carlton and Will were on board with the idea, and so was Quentin Harrison. Quentin was impressed to find out they planned to share profits from their work to go towards businesses started by members of the African American community that were struggling. The name of the business was “Blackccess.” Access is what Carlton and Will were looking for, and since they didn’t get one, they wanted to help those in need and offer better opportunities.
Did Amira and Carlton patch up?
Carlton was on a high after Quentin approved his and Will’s business proposal. Since his rehab journey, Carlton has become more responsible towards the people he loves. His family was among them, and his next step was to apologize to Amira for crossing the boundaries. Carlton was on the path to recovery, and he did not want to go back to being an arrogant person. He was a changed person, and to prove that, he went to the same support group, which Amira attended and apologized to everyone in the crowd for his behavior.
Carlton claimed to be visiting the support group for his betterment, but he claims it was selfish of him to hope Amira would forgive him for tracking her down. He comes out clean about his past, and it had become a habit to speak about his past just to let people know he was not that person anymore. His apology came at a time when his mother too admonished him for not facing the consequences of his actions and constantly making mistakes. Carlton’s words felt genuine for Amira, and she approached him with the intention of getting together with him. She realized he was not as bad as she presumed and believed in giving him another chance. Since she was also out of rehab just like him, she believed in giving people a second chance. The episode ended with Amira and Carlton getting back together.
