Beauty in Black, created by Tyler Perry, is the story of the Bellarie family and the conflict within. They are a bunch of rich people who are constantly at each other’s throats. Beauty in Black could be compared to those soap operas that have many characters with their own arcs and journeys. Some of them are loaded, while others are barely managing to live off the meager salaries. The rich and the not-so-rich clash to form the crux of Beauty in Black.

Spoilers Ahead

Mallory

Crystle Stewart, as Mallory in Beauty in Black, runs a successful hair product-based business empire, and she claims her husband and her father-in-law have been her pillars of strength. Beauty in Black is a scholarship program her company runs to offer financial aid to the women from the African American community, giving them a chance to start a business. Mallory is a philanthropist, but to everyone in her circle, she is a vicious woman who is arrogant about the money she has made for herself.

Mallory does not think twice before harming anyone who she feels is obstructing her path to financial glory. She is also not on good terms with her husband, Roy, unlike how she projects it through social media. Mallory is livid at Roy for cheating on her, and she wants to get back at him for hurting her. Mallory did not process her anger well, which led to her running over a person amidst a heavy downpour. Mallory and Roy are trying to find a way to keep themselves out of trouble. Their personal life is about to hit rock bottom as Mallory makes plans to get back at her husband for cheating on her.

Kimmie

Taylor Polidore Williams is Kimmie, who works as a stripper at a strip club in Chicago. She is also a prostitute, as she must get some extra cash to sustain herself. Kimmie is a strong girl who comes across as a pushover initially but turns out to be a resilient person. She is not on good terms with her client, Roy, Mallory’s husband. She goes out of her way to help the people she loves and cherishes. Her mentor, Rain, took Kimmie into her profession when the latter’s mother abandoned her. Kimmie has a generous nature when she finds out the owner of the strip club is Roy’s father and is a closeted gay man. Kimmie wants to do the right thing for the people she cares for, but her kind nature does not serve her well which almost costs her her life.

Roy

Julian Horton is Roy Bellarie, Mallory’s husband, and he is not a good person. He is emotionally and verbally abusive to Kimmie, the prostitute he is a regular too. Kimmie has no option but to go to him to earn some extra cash. Roy is an insecure human being who, by the looks of it, has cheated on Mallory too many times. To the world, their marriage is perfect, but it is rotting on the inside.

Roy goes out of his way to prove he is the man in the family and the person who runs the company. Mallory does not allow that kind of behavior around her, which aggravates the friction between her and Roy. Roy is not sorry for his behavior, even after Mallory learns of his infidelity. Roy is a brat as well, who does not understand the responsibility that comes with having wealth. He is unfaithful to his family and his wife.

Horace

Ricco Ross, as Horace in Beauty in Black, is the father to Roy and Charles, who has spent most of his life earning good money for his family. Roy and Charles turned out to be rich brats, but thankfully his sons did not render him bankrupt thanks to his successful daughter-in-law, Mallory. Horace is a closeted homosexual, and Kimmie deduces that quickly after he glances over too many times at a male stripper. They form a strange bond over time.

Kimmie chose to keep it discreet and helped him get in touch with Angel, the male stripper he was interested in. Horace acts as a hypocrite when he is not approving of his son being openly gay. Horace is not on good terms with his brother Norman. As neighbors, they are mostly not on talking terms because of the scuffle over their property.

Norman

Richard Lawson as Norman Bellarie is Horace’s brother. Norman is as bitter as Horace, who does not trust his family members. He believes his brother and his family are after his share of money. Things become ugly when Norman’s wife Ina Bellarie is run over by someone who had access to their property. His wife is not in good condition, and Norman is horrified to lose her. Norman, as stated above, feels his brother’s family is after his share of the family fortune. Norman is unable to find any evidence that could point to the culprit that caused harm to his wife. Ina’s hospitalization made him realize his love for her, and he desperately wants her to get better so he can let her know about it.

Body

Tamera Kissen plays the role of Body in Beauty in Black. She is Rain and Kimmie’s colleague and is far more experienced than most of the young women working at the club. Body is a mean person who is only obsessed with money and is not empathetic towards the other women working with her at the strip club. Body encourages Rain to carry out body enhancement surgery, which gets botched. Instead of owning up to the mistake, she made a mess out of the situation, which worsened her friendship with Kimmie. Kimmie and Body got into spats on a regular basis because of the situation with Rain and could only hope they would find a middle ground.

Rain

Amber Reign Smith as Rain is Kimmie’s mentor. When Kimmie was abandoned by her mother, Rain took it upon herself to groom Kimmie to be the best stripper out there. Rain and Kimmie are like sisters, and both keep supporting each other’s endeavors. Rain supports Kimmie’s dreams of leading a normal life away from the strip clubs and prostitution. Rain’s botched surgery caused by Body made Kimmie angry. Rain is the kind of friend Kimmie needs by her side, and she will do anything to keep her alive.
