Only 1 episode left of the show, and a lot of questions are still on our minds! In episode 4 of “A Girl And An Astronaut,” we find out exactly what Nadia’s grandfather, Andrey Davidov, was trying to do in the experiment. Marta is torn between Niko and Bogdan’s love but chooses to remain with Niko because of his sincerity toward her. The boys finally leave for Russia to be tested for the space mission. Nadia had to deal with some infiltrators from the federal agency, and things are not going great for her even if Niko finally awakens after Marta leaves. What Happens In Episode 5 Of ‘A Girl And An Astronaut’?
A dazed (and finally clothed) Niko wakes up to an unfamiliar face and space. Nadia has him in her house, and Niko wonders where he is. He tells Nadia he wants to see Marta and his family or anyone from his unit. Nadia tells him he needs to rest first, but he’s too agitated to listen to anything. Nadia recounts how everything went wrong 30 years ago and that instead of sleeping for 24 hours, he was out for 30 years. Other than the fact that he has time jumped 30 years, Niko is also bothered by something else. He tells Nadia that nobody said anything to him about “water.” There was water in the capsule, according to him, but Nadia reassures him that he was just hallucinating. He doesn’t believe her but tells her he wants to leave to go see Marta. Nadia lies to him, saying Marta doesn’t care about him anymore; she’s married with a daughter, and Nadia is the only one here for him. Olivia has told her about Bogdan’s condition and that he is in the hospital, but Marta tells her she will see Olivia’s grandfather first. Marta goes to see Karolina immediately after returning to Poland. She wants Wiktor to help because he has connections. Karolina tells her not to see him because he’s in a bad mood, but Marta doesn’t listen. After seeing him, though, she realizes he can’t really do much. She heads to see Bogdan in the hospital. She congratulates him on erasing data from Homie. It turns out he’s known about his condition for the last six months. They seem to reconnect a little bit.
In 2022, Niko and Bogdan prepared to fight for the mission. They compete in really difficult tasks, including being in a rotating machine in a 9-G centrifuge and walking in a swimming pool with heavy weights in hand. Bogdan can’t stop thinking about Marta and calls her to tell her to choose, or the “universe will choose” for her. While exercising, Niko meets a little Nadia. He tells her that she reminds him of his younger sister. She tells him that she wants him to go to space and that her grandfather said it’s between him and Bogdan. Nadia then hands him a drawing of an astronaut, saying it’s to bring him good luck. In the middle of talking, she says her eye hurts and then faints. Niko immediately rushes her to the doctor. Her grandfather tells Niko that she has ALS (a motor neuron disease; this explains her condition in 2052).
In the future, Nadia struggles to feed herself while Niko sleeps comfortably in the house. She’s unable to do it, and JJ arrives. Now we find out through JJ that Nadia is keeping Niko for her health and welfare. Whatever is inside him (probably the stem cells we’ve heard so much about) may be the single cure for her disease. The puzzle is finally coming together. There’s a code-4 announcement, and they’re all summoned by Pudovkin. JJ and Nadia leave a seemingly sleeping Niko and head out. Unfortunately for them, he heard the conversation and was, in fact, awake. At the lab, a furious Pudovkin can’t understand how an entire man under surveillance can disappear out of sight of so many members. In the meantime, Niko escapes Nadia’s home when a package arrives via drone. Nadia is notified that Niko has left the house. Niko finds some soldiers and renders one unconscious. He puts on the uniform and travels with them. Everyone is looking for Niko now. He enters what looks like the sewage system, and just when he’s about to get caught, he dives into the water.
Thirty years earlier, Niko and Bogdan competed with each other in the swimming pool test. The only thing on Bogdan’s mind, though, is Marta. He gives up in the middle of the test, making Niko the default choice. Niko is tested with a lie detector machine. Basically, he’s asked if he would go on the machine if anything were to happen to his family when he heads off. He says his family and he know the risks of the program. Finally, Professor Davidov tells Niko about the sub-hibernation test. That is the deciding factor for him. Niko agrees to do the mission, and in congratulations, Sergey presents him with a surprise: Marta. Niko tells Marta that after he returns, they will be together forever.
‘A Girl And An Astronaut’ Episode 5: Ending Explained – Will Niko Reach Marta Or Get Caught By The Feds?
In 2052, Niko comes out of the water, rejoicing. He’s made it to Poland. At first, he tries to go to his old home and break in, but he’s met with the new owner of the house. The new owner thinks he’s a paparazzi looking for the returning cosmonaut. The man tells Niko he can find the astronaut in the central cemetery. Niko goes there to see for himself, and sure enough, there’s a grave in his name. When he touches it, it triggers a video where an AI-made Niko talks about how he passed on a mission in space in 2022.
In the beginning, everything turned out perfectly, and Niko ended up in orbit exactly as planned. Niko is in awe of all the beauty he can see from outer space. Half the mission was successfully accomplished. But now it is time for hibernation. Back to the future (you know we had to!), Niko is on a bridge. Maybe it is the same place Marta and he jumped off those many years ago. Marta is there too. She walks up to him, and they hold hands. She can’t believe her eyes, and finally, after making sure he’s really there, they embrace. The episode ends with Niko’s sigh of relief. Finally, Niko is with Marta, but the hunt for him is still on. We think that Bogdan may be dying soon, so that leaves room for Marta and Niko to be together again. So, she manages to have both of her loves in this lifetime, but let’s see where the last episode takes us!
